About the Role

Abbott, a global healthcare leader, is seeking a [Remote] Principal Cloud Engineer, DevOps to join their team. This role is open to candidates in the USA and offers the opportunity to lead cloud operations, enhance developer experience, and provide technical leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Cloud DevOps team in enhancing observability and monitoring for web and mobile applications.
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity to ensure continuous hardening of cloud infrastructure.
  • Lead the cloud operation organization, maintaining technical skills for future opportunities.
  • Automate cloud-native technologies, deploy applications, and provision critical infrastructure.
  • Document deployment procedures, environments, and technical changes.
  • Utilize operational monitoring tools effectively.
  • Mentor fellow DevOps team members, fostering technical growth and acting as a Subject Matter Expert (SME).
  • Provide technical leadership to the Cloud DevOps team.
  • Define best practices and guardrails for deploying data infrastructure across multiple cloud environments.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable Corporate and Divisional Policies and procedures.
  • Nurture relationships with key cloud technology suppliers to stay updated on emerging technologies, ensure solution stability, optimize pricing, and influence product direction.

Skills and Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.

Experience

  • Minimum 12 years of experience; Master's Degree with 7+ years of related experience; or Ph.D. with 2+ years of related experience.

Technical Expertise

  • Expert knowledge in AWS Cloud platform, networks, middleware, and backend applications for large-scale enterprise environments.
  • Expert knowledge of Continuous Integration/Continuous Development (CI/CD), source control, pipelines, and automation.
  • Expert knowledge of app development, cybersecurity, cloud development, and deployment.
  • Expert understanding of architecture with a strong foundation in networking and Linux.
  • Expert knowledge in managing strict SLAs, operational KPIs, and cost optimization for cloud and PaaS infrastructure.

Leadership and Soft Skills

  • Exceptional problem-solving and communication skills, suitable for fast-paced, collaborative environments.
  • Strong leadership and mentorship skills.
  • Seasoned technologist and cloud expert with deep insights into the newest cloud technologies and trends.

Industry Experience

  • Experience with regulated software environments in medical devices, biomedical, or high-technology industries.
  • Demonstrated team leadership and mentorship capabilities.
