About the Role
BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee is seeking a Sr. Underwriting Compliance Auditor to join their remote-first team. This role is crucial in supporting the well-being of their 3.4 million customers.
Key Responsibilities
The Sr. Underwriting Compliance Auditor will:
- Conduct thorough audits of underwriting files, including applications, tax documentation, financial statements, and supporting records.
- Review various tax forms (e.g., wage reports, payroll records, business tax filings) to validate group eligibility, enrollment, or rating criteria.
- Ensure all underwriting decisions strictly adhere to internal guidelines, regulatory standards, and compliance policies.
- Identify and document any discrepancies, documentation gaps, errors, or policy exceptions in underwriting determinations.
- Clearly communicate audit findings and recommended corrective actions to Marketing, Underwriting, Compliance, and leadership teams.
- Maintain comprehensive audit workpapers and document findings meticulously.
- Support follow-up audits, corrective action plans, and appeals or reconsiderations.
- Stay current with underwriting rules, tax documentation requirements, and regulatory changes (ACA, ERISA, TN state law, IRS rules).
- Track audit trends and propose improvements to processes or training.
- Mentor and assist other Underwriting Auditors with complex audits and conduct quality audits using defined metrics.
Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
Experience
- 3 years of experience in underwriting, underwriting audit, compliance, quality review, and/or basic business employee tax filing requirements/accounting/payroll.
Skills
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to interpret and apply underwriting guidelines and policies.
- Capacity to work independently while managing multiple audits and deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel).
- Internal candidates with FACETS experience are preferred.

- This is a remote role with occasional travel to BCBST headquarters in Chattanooga, TN.
