Overview
The CDC Foundation is collaborating with the CDC and state/local authorities to provide surge staff for the Overdose Data to Action (OD2A) program and support select unfunded states. This program focuses on surveillance, prevention, and response activities related to overdoses.
Data Analyst Role
The Data Analyst will be responsible for planning, developing, and executing analyses of overdose surveillance data and data pertaining to overdose prevention initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Information Management, Public Health (Epidemiology), or a related field.
- A minimum of two years of full-time, professional experience in data cleaning, data management, and statistical analysis.
- Proficiency in collecting, organizing, analyzing, and disseminating large datasets, including writing queries, applying mathematical analysis methods, implementing machine learning processes, and creating statistical analysis models.
- Experience conducting descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive analyses using primary or secondary data.
- Ability to provide data-driven insights and solutions to enhance Overdose Prevention Programs, identify new prevention opportunities, and improve existing services.
- Proficiency with computer systems, with the ability to quickly learn new data systems and adhere to data integrity and security protocols to protect personally identifiable information.
- Required proficiency in common statistical software such as R, Python, and/or SAS.
- Experience with geospatial data and analytics, including familiarity with tools like ArcGIS, QGIS, and/or GeoDa.
- Demonstrated ability to design, prototype, develop, deploy, and support dashboards and reports using Power BI or Tableau.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Teams, Zoom, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access).
- Strong written and oral communication skills, with a focus on efficiency and delivering high-quality work under deadlines.
- Proven ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
- Highly motivated and organized, with a capacity for teamwork and independent project management.
- Experience working in a virtual environment with remote partners and teams.
- Keen attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to handle sensitive materials and interact with diverse populations with empathy and professionalism.
Responsibilities
- Manage full life cycle data analytics activities, including data cleaning, developing analysis and reporting capabilities, and linking databases.
- Continuously monitor performance and quality control plans to identify areas for model improvement; perform related tasks as needed.
- Conduct data management, cleaning, and statistical analysis using SAS, R, Python, SQL, or other statistical programming languages on Overdose Surveillance and Prevention Program data.
- Produce and analyze reports for monitoring and evaluating overdose surveillance and prevention activities, providing timely data analysis support to data and outreach teams, and informing public health organizations.
- Collaborate with agency and external groups, providing data analysis support and insights for statewide initiatives.
- Effectively communicate technical and general information regarding Overdose Surveillance and Prevention Program data to diverse audiences, including agency leadership, policymakers, and public health professionals.
- Compile data and create meaningful graphs and data visualizations.
- Coordinate results and feedback to hospitals regarding findings from patient testing, as requested.
- Assist in the compilation, analysis, and dissemination of data related to opioid testing and surveillance.
- Support the Department of Health and partners in providing detailed, real-time reports on current trends in drug supply and overdose.
- Identify patterns, emerging trends, and opportunities to enhance the efficiency of additional testing.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of current and proposed interventions and advise on data collection and analysis for evaluation purposes.
- Work with stakeholders to ensure the efficient and timely reporting of quality data for analysis and dissemination.
