Iboga Wellness Institute is an American-founded organization operating a physician-led ibogaine treatment program in Cozumel, Mexico. Since launching operations in September 2025, our clinical team has focused on delivering medically supervised ibogaine protocols supported by rigorous screening, cardiac monitoring, and structured pre- and post-integration support.
Our long-term vision is to help responsibly advance ibogaine treatment within the United States through medically guided protocols, research collaboration, and regulatory alignment. We are building the clinical and safety framework necessary to position ibogaine as a credible therapeutic option for addiction, trauma, and neurological conditions.
Position Overview
We are seeking a Medical Consultant to work remotely with our leadership team and medical staff to help guide the development of clinical protocols, safety standards, and regulatory-aligned frameworks supporting the future introduction of ibogaine treatment in the United States.
This role will collaborate closely with our physician-led team in Cozumel, Mexico to fully understand our current protocols and contribute to refining best practices consistent with U.S. medical standards.
The ideal candidate brings experience in psychedelic medicine, addiction medicine, neurology, psychiatry, emergency medicine, anesthesiology, cardiology, or clinical research, along with a strong interest in advancing innovative therapeutic models responsibly and safely.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with executive leadership and clinical team to develop U.S.-aligned clinical frameworks for ibogaine-assisted therapy
- Review and help refine screening, safety, and monitoring protocols consistent with high medical standards
- Work closely with our Chief Medical Director and clinical staff to understand existing protocols currently utilized in Cozumel
- Provide guidance on patient safety procedures including cardiac screening, contraindications, medication management, and monitoring standards
- Assist in development of clinical SOPs (standard operating procedures)
- Contribute to protocol structure for addiction, mental health, and neurological treatment tracks
- Advise on medical risk mitigation strategies and patient selection criteria
- Provide insight into clinical documentation standards aligned with U.S. healthcare expectations
- Support development of research-aligned frameworks and data collection standards
- Offer strategic guidance on positioning ibogaine within emerging psychedelic regulatory pathways in the U.S.
- Participate in periodic remote meetings with medical and executive teams
Preferred Qualifications
- MD, DO, PharmD, PhD, or advanced clinical degree
- Experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Addiction medicine
- Psychiatry
- Neurology
- Emergency medicine
- Cardiology
- Anesthesiology
- Integrative or functional medicine
- Psychedelic-assisted therapy
- Familiarity with cardiac monitoring considerations and medication contraindications
- Experience developing clinical protocols or SOPs
- Interest in advancing responsible innovation in emerging therapeutic modalities
- Strong understanding of patient safety frameworks and clinical governance
- Experience with clinical research methodology or observational studies is a plus
- Comfort working in a collaborative international clinical environment
