About Intersect

We're a team of friends bound together by a mission to preserve our planet for future generations through innovative energy solutions and modern infrastructure. In December 2025, Google announced an agreement to acquire Intersect, to enable more data center and generation capacity to come online faster while accelerating energy development and innovation. After close, we'll continue doing exactly what we were built to do - develop, construct, and operate the most ambitious power and data infrastructure in the country.

Intersect's operations will remain separate from Alphabet and Google under the Intersect brand. We're on an aggressive growth trajectory and looking for people hungry to tackle the largest energy challenges on the planet.

Location & Team Gatherings

Intersect has been a fully flexible workplace since its founding in 2016. We've been very intentional about the way we do things. We are not work-from-home, hybrid, or in-office - we are any and all of those options! Deepening social connections and offering shared experiences is a cornerstone of the way we work. We connect as a team at our Team Week experiences four times a year and at our recently established Hub locations - SF Bay Area, NYC Metro Area, NY; Denver, CO; Austin, TX; Calgary, AB; and Toronto, ON.

We are currently looking for candidates located within 60 miles of any of the listed hubs to foster more in-person connections while maintaining our flexible remote culture.

About This Role

We are seeking an experienced operational leader to join our operations team. This individual will be the architect of our operational strategy as we scale to support mission-critical data center infrastructure. The Head of Operations is responsible for the total performance, reliability, and safety of a diverse power generation portfolio---including Wind, Solar, BESS, and Gas Engines.

This role is unique in its breadth: you will lead the transition from a purely third-party O&M model to a sophisticated hybrid of insourced maintenance and outsourced services, while simultaneously overseeing the development and launch of our centralized Intersect Operations Center (IOC).

You will ensure our assets provide the 24/7 reliability required by our data center partners, maintaining the highest standards of technical discipline and safety. Reporting to the Head of Operations and Maintenance, you will lead an expanding, high-performance organization and manage a complex ecosystem of Campus Managers, Technology Specific Site Managers, Field Technicians, and Remote Operations personnel.

Team Overview

The Operations Department is the heartbeat of our portfolio, ensuring that our clean energy and firming assets operate with industrial-grade precision. As we pivot to support data center loads, our department is evolving into a technology-forward organization that blends traditional field expertise with advanced remote monitoring and predictive analytics.

What You'll Do

Integrated Field Operations

  • Lead and optimize all field-level O&M activities across a multi-technology fleet (Wind, Solar, BESS, and Gas), ensuring 24/7 availability for critical infrastructure support.

IOC Strategy & Launch

  • Direct the design, staffing, and operationalization of the company's new Integrated Operations Center, establishing protocols for real-time monitoring and dispatch.

Hybrid Maintenance Model

  • Develop and execute the strategy to selectively "insource" high-value maintenance tasks while managing and holding third-party O&M providers to rigorous performance and safety KPIs.

Condition-Based Monitoring

  • Champion the implementation of advanced diagnostic tools, including AI-driven analytics, ultrasound, and thermal imaging, to move from reactive to predictive maintenance.

Financial & Asset Management

  • Operate within multi-million dollar OpEx budgets, identify cost-efficiencies in parts procurement/logistics, and drive long-term asset health to maximize ROI.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Act as the primary operational liaison for the Trading, EHS, and Data Center Asset Management teams to align power delivery with load requirements.

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field (advanced degree or professional certifications like CMRP preferred).
  • 10+ years of leadership in power generation, with a proven track record of managing at least 5 GW+ of diverse assets, including Wind, Solar, BESS, and reciprocating gas engines.
  • A "Safety First" mindset with the ability to build and enforce rigorous Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) protocols across a geographically dispersed fleet.
  • Direct experience designing, launching, or managing a Remote Operations Center (ROC) or centralized control room environment.
  • Deep understanding of the 24/7 reliability and "always-on" power requirements necessary to support Data Center operations or large-scale industrial loads.
  • Practical experience implementing Condition-Based Monitoring (CBM) programs using AI-driven analytics, ultrasound, and thermal imaging to drive predictive maintenance.
  • Strong foundation in Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) and experience implementing or optimizing global Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) systems.
  • Expert-level experience in EPC and O&M contract negotiation, as well as managing complex OEM warranty claims and long-term service agreements (LTSAs).
  • Mastery of Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and a relentless drive to utilize data for performance and availability improvements.
  • Extensive experience managing multi-million dollar OpEx and CapEx budgets, with a focus on cost-effectiveness and long-term asset value.
  • This is a hybrid role based in Austin, TX, with an expected schedule of approximately 70% in-office (supporting the Operations/Control Center) and 30% travel to field sites. Travel may be higher during the initial buildout phase.
