This is a foundational leadership role responsible for building and scaling the People Operations function at a high-growth organization entering its next stage of expansion. The Sr. Director, People Operations will design and implement the systems, processes, and infrastructure that define a best-in-class employee experience, while ensuring operational excellence and compliance across all HR functions. Acting as the first senior HR leader in the organization, this role blends strategic leadership with hands-on execution across HR operations, compensation, benefits, and employee lifecycle management. The position partners closely with executive leadership to shape organizational design, workforce planning, and company culture. It requires a strong builder mindset, capable of creating scalable programs that evolve with the business. This is a highly visible role with direct impact on how the company attracts, develops, and retains talent at scale.
Accountabilities:
Lead the design and execution of the People Operations function, building scalable HR infrastructure and programs that support company growth and employee experience.
Core HR Systems & Infrastructure
- Build and optimize core HR systems including HRIS, payroll, benefits administration, and people analytics infrastructure
Compensation & Benefits
- Design and lead compensation and benefits strategy in partnership with Finance and executive leadership, ensuring market competitiveness and equity
Employee Lifecycle Management
- Oversee the full employee lifecycle including onboarding, performance management, development, engagement, and offboarding processes
Performance & Development
- Develop scalable performance management, feedback, and career development frameworks that support organizational growth
Strategic Advisory
- Act as a strategic advisor to executives and managers on organizational design, workforce planning, and employee relations
Vendor Management
- Manage external partners such as benefits brokers to ensure cost-effective, compliant, and competitive offerings
People Analytics & Reporting
- Establish people data and reporting systems to support decision-making, compliance, and workforce insights
Culture Initiatives
- Drive culture-building initiatives that strengthen engagement, inclusion, and manager effectiveness across the organization
Requirements:
Experienced People leader with a strong background in building and scaling HR/People Operations functions in high-growth environments.
Experience & Expertise
- Proven track record (8--12 years) in People Operations, HR leadership, or HR Business Partner roles, including building programs from the ground up
- Strong expertise in HR systems, payroll, HRIS platforms, and scalable people infrastructure design
- Deep understanding of compensation strategy, benchmarking, and total rewards design, including geo-based compensation models
- Experience partnering with executive leadership on organizational design, workforce planning, and change management
- Strong knowledge of U.S. employment law, compliance, and multi-state HR practices
- Demonstrated ability to design and scale performance management and talent development frameworks
