About You

As a Lead UX Designer & Systems Engineer, you are part of the Digital Product Management team, focusing on a unified omnichannel strategy. You will be involved in creating innovative, user-driven experiences on the .com platform and various channels, maximizing revenue for eCommerce, particularly for The Mascot Shop.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead end-to-end product experience strategy and delivery for eCommerce journeys.
  • Engineer and scale a multi-brand design system to improve consistency, accessibility, and speed-to-market across digital properties.
  • Collaborate closely with Product Management, Engineering, Merchandising, and Marketing teams.
  • Serve as a UX design leader and systems builder, driving experience outcomes while translating design standards into reusable, coded components and tokenized foundations across multiple brands.
  • Provide functional leadership and may lead project design teams and designers as necessary.

You should have a strong understanding of UX design, research, data analytics, multi-brand design systems, UI engineering concepts, and consumer behavior.

You Will:

Lead Product Design & Experience Strategy

  • Lead end-to-end product design for key digital experiences across multiple brands, from discovery to delivery, grounded in customer needs and business outcomes.
  • Partner with Product and Engineering to define scope, sequencing, and measurable outcomes (i.e., conversion, findability, task success, on-time project delivery).
  • Set and uphold quality standards for interaction design, visual design, accessibility, and content clarity across customer journeys.
  • Communicate design direction through clear storytelling, rationale, and data-informed recommendations to stakeholders at multiple levels.
  • Mentor and coach designers and product partners through critique, feedback, and design reviews; model strong craft and decision-making.
  • Drive discovery and validation: plan and facilitate research, concept testing, usability testing, and iterative refinement.
  • Enable a user testing strategy and deliver designs before launch vetted by consumers.
  • Lead UX/CX workshops (journey mapping, design sprints, co-creation), guide prioritization, and ensure cross-functional alignment from problem framing through launch.

Design System Engineering (Multi-Brand)

  • Engineer and scale a multi-brand design system that supports distinct brand expressions while maintaining shared foundations, accessibility, and component integrity.
  • Own design system architecture and governance: foundations (color, typography, spacing), tokens, theming strategy, component libraries, documentation, and adoption enablement.
  • Partner with front-end engineering to deliver coded components (e.g., React/Angular/Web Components) aligned to Figma libraries, ensuring fidelity, performance, and accessibility (WCAG).
  • Define and maintain contribution standards: component specs, API/props guidance, token usage rules, release notes, versioning, and deprecation practices.
  • Establish contribution workflows (design → review → build → publish), including QA checklists, accessibility audits, and regression testing for system components.
  • Create multi-brand theming patterns (brand layers, theme tokens, brand-safe variants) so product teams can build faster without reinventing UI.
  • Measure system effectiveness: adoption, reuse rate, time saved, defect reduction, accessibility compliance, and consistency across brands.

Strengthen Cross-Functional Enablement & Governance

  • Facilitate design governance rituals (design critiques, system reviews, intake triage, roadmap planning) to align teams and ensure scalable outcomes.
  • Partner with Brand/Marketing/Merchandising to translate campaign and brand needs into system-friendly patterns that preserve brand integrity and improve consistency.
  • Provide enablement: documentation, office hours, onboarding guides, and training for designers, product managers, and engineers adopting the system.

You Have:

  • 4-year degree in design, information sciences, HCI, Business, Marketing, or related field.
  • 8 years of professional experience in product design/UX with demonstrated leadership across complex digital products; eCommerce experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of user interaction design principles and UX methodologies.
  • Proven skills in visual communication and creating detailed deliverables (e.g., journey maps, user flows).
  • Experience designing for conversion, discoverability, and usability in eCommerce or transactional journeys.
  • Strong project management and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively cross-functionally and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Creative thinker with a strategic mindset, analytical problem-solving skills, and a passion for delivering exceptional customer experiences.
  • Expert proficiency with Figma (libraries, components, variants), prototyping, and collaborative delivery workflows.
  • Comfort working with CMS-driven experiences (e.g., dotCMS) and designing scalable templates and components.
  • Hands-on experience building or maintaining design systems across multiple products/brands.
  • Strong knowledge of design system foundations (tokens, variables, components, spacing, grid, auto-layout).
  • Working knowledge of front-end fundamentals: HTML/CSS, component-based UI, responsive design.
  • Ability to collaborate deeply with engineers on component APIs, constraints, and implementation details.
  • Experience defining documentation standards, governance, versioning, and contribution models.
  • Accessibility fluency (WCAG), including patterns and testing approaches.

Love Where You Work:

  • Healthcare: Competitive healthcare (health, dental, vision, coverage) and voluntary benefits (home/car insurance, pet insurance, flexible spending account).
  • Retirement: 401K plan with immediate vesting.
  • Flexibility: Hybrid schedule with 3 days on-site.
  • Time Off: Accrued paid time off and company-paid holidays. (Washington residents: 13 vacation days, 8 paid sick leave, 11 holidays, family leave).
  • Development: Tuition reimbursement after 6 months of service.
  • Pay Transparency: Salary range $105,000 - $130,000 with annual bonus eligibility.
