Job description

About Us

Karchem Consulting is a boutique consulting and services firm focusing on the selection, implementation, and ongoing management of laboratory informatics software in the biotechnology, biopharmaceutical, and life sciences industries. We work with a wide variety of companies, and understanding our clients' scientific objectives is critical to our success. Everyone at Karchem Consulting has a background in scientific disciplines such as biology, molecular biology, bioinformatics, and chemistry, enabling us to communicate effectively with our clients.

We are a highly collaborative, employee-centric company focusing on training and promoting from within. While we are a fully remote organization, we prioritize staying connected through annual in-person company kick-offs, regular virtual company lunches, and consistent opportunities to learn from and engage with one another.

Karchem Consulting Mission and Values:

We are principled scientists on a mission to reduce the burden of lab informatics systems for small, innovative biotechs and other organizations, enabling them to focus on science rather than software.

Motivated by Client Success | Reliability | Challenge-oriented | Adaptability | Intellectually Curious | Openness | Integrity | Thoughtful Collaboration

Role Overview:

This entry-level job is a mix of business analysis and technical work. You'll be focusing on documenting user needs and configuring commercial lab software, such as electronic lab notebooks (ELNs), laboratory information management systems (LIMS), and related systems. You'll report to a lead consultant, who will train you on the methodologies required for the position.

Who You Are:

We're looking for a curious "technical detective" who loves to figure things out on their own but can easily switch gears as project priorities change. You'll fit right in if you're great at managing your time, handling focused tasks like configuration and documentation, while still being quick to respond to our fast-moving biotech customers. Even though you love getting lost in a deep dive, you're also a pro at jumping between different tasks without missing any important details.

You'll fit right in with our mission if you appreciate being part of a warm, highly collaborative remote team that learns together, while bringing the high agency and adaptability to manage your own workstreams effectively. If you're a self-motivated, quick learner who can shift priorities easily to ensure our solutions empower researchers, we'd love to have you join us.

  • Collaborate with client stakeholders to define requirements for enhancements or new functionality within laboratory software systems.
  • Configure and support the implementation of laboratory software through the user interface and API-based workflows.
  • Document user requirements, workflows, and system configurations to support project deliverables and ensure smooth client handoffs.
  • Develop and deliver user training for lab software systems.
  • Over time, take on more challenging and engaging projects, expanding expertise with lab software.
  • Contribute to internal knowledge bases, configuration guides, and training documentation to support team scalability at the appropriate level.
  • Participate in internal company initiatives, including contributing to team training programs and supporting a collaborative remote culture.

What You Bring to the Table:

  • A degree in biology, molecular biology, life sciences, biological engineering, biomedical engineering, bioinformatics, or a related scientific or interdisciplinary life sciences field.
  • Experience working in a lab environment.

  • Strong attention to detail in all position areas, including software configuration, documentation, and handling client data and deliverables, to guarantee accuracy, consistency, and quality.
  • Ability to learn and apply knowledge of complex scientific processes and workflows such as NGS, RNA/DNA techniques, in vivo, protein engineering, etc.
  • Familiarity with MS Office Suite / MS Teams / Slack / Google Workspace / Zoom.
  • Proficiency with Excel formulas and functions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities across multiple client engagements.
  • Self-directed and organized, with the discipline to work effectively in a remote environment and adhere to established procedures and policies.

What Makes You Stand Out:
