- Hawaii Licensed Mental Health Therapist (Substance Use Speciality)
JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Licensed Mental Health Therapist with experience working with Substance Use (SU) populations to join our growing private practice team. In this role, you will provide comprehensive mental health and substance use counseling services to a diverse client population, with a strong emphasis on individuals transitioning from federal and state correctional systems.
Many of the individuals served through this position present with co-occurring mental health and substance use concerns, trauma histories, reintegration challenges, and significant psychosocial stressors. Your clinical expertise will help clients navigate recovery, relapse prevention, emotional regulation, and overall wellness while supporting long-term stability and positive behavioral change.
This position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact within underserved communities while working within a supportive, flexible, and collaborative behavioral health environment. Hybrid, remote, and in-person opportunities are available depending on clinician preference and program needs. Group therapy opportunities may also be available for clinicians interested in facilitating psychoeducational or recovery-focused groups, though group work is completely optional.
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive clinical assessments, diagnostic evaluations, and treatment planning based on client needs and presenting concerns
- Provide evidence-based psychotherapy services including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, Solution-Focused interventions, relapse prevention, and trauma-informed care
- Deliver individual counseling services focused on mental health stabilization, substance use recovery, emotional regulation, and behavioral change
- Facilitate group therapy sessions focused on substance use recovery, psychoeducation, coping skills, and relapse prevention if interested and clinically appropriate
- Complete timely and accurate clinical documentation while maintaining compliance with HIPAA and organizational standards
- Provide substance use-related support, psychoeducation, and recovery-oriented interventions for individuals with co-occurring disorders
- Collaborate with case managers, probation/parole teams, referral sources, and community partners when appropriate to support continuity of care
- Maintain professional boundaries and therapeutic rapport while working with justice-involved and high-needs populations
- Respond appropriately to crisis situations utilizing de-escalation, risk assessment, and crisis intervention techniques
- Maintain familiarity with ASAM-informed approaches, behavioral health assessments, and clinical recommendations related to level of care
- Participate in clinical consultation, team meetings, and ongoing professional development opportunities
Experience & Qualifications
- Active Hawai'i behavioral health license in good standing (LMHC, LCSW, LMFT, Psychologist, or equivalent)
- Experience working with Substance Use (SU) populations required
- C-SAC certification strongly preferred
- Experience working with justice-involved populations, transitional populations, or co-occurring disorders is highly valued
- Strong clinical assessment, documentation, and treatment planning skills
- Familiarity with HIPAA compliance, behavioral health documentation standards, and telehealth platforms
- Experience utilizing evidence-based behavioral health interventions and trauma-informed approaches
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary environment
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Pay: $40,000.00 - $124,000.00 per year

License/Certification:
- Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC) (Preferred)
- LMHC, LMFT, LCSW, Licensed Psychologist in the state of HI (Required)
