About Monoline

Insurance has a design problem. Agents quote policies through interfaces built in the 90s, underwriters juggle a dozen tabs to make a single decision, and customers struggle to decipher policy documents that might as well be written in Latin. The tools are clunky, the workflows are broken, and everyone's made peace with it.

We haven't.

Monoline is redesigning standalone personal umbrella insurance from the ground up, and that means rethinking every interface an agent, underwriter, or customer touches. We've already seen what's possible, but there's a lot more work to do.

We're founder-led, small, mighty, and moving fast. We care about craft. We believe good design is a competitive advantage in an industry that's forgotten what it looks like. And we're looking for someone to help us continue to prove it.

At Mononline we believe in challenging the status quo, bringing fresh perspectives to a traditional industry, and designing intuitive, straightforward, and consistent products. Our philosophy is rooted in empathy -- understanding customer needs to create truly helpful solutions. We lead with gratitude, valuing every detail and the relationships we build along the way.

Our core values guide everything we do:

  • **People First --**We build meaningful relationships, treating our team, partners, and customers with respect and care.
  • **Positive Presence --**We bring energy and optimism to every challenge, fostering a supportive and motivated team culture.
  • **Batteries Included --**We take initiative, think independently, and execute at a high level without waiting for direction.
  • **Always Curious --**We seek knowledge, challenge assumptions, and continuously refine our approach to be the best at what we do.

About the role

We are seeking a technical Product Designer who lives at the intersection of design and front-end development to join our remote team. We are looking for someone who is equally comfortable conducting user research and building wireframes as they are writing production React and TypeScript. In this role, you will own the end-to-end experience of Monoline's customer-facing products, internal tools, and shared design system.

You'll design intuitive interfaces, prototype interactions, and build the front-end code that brings them to life. A significant portion of this role involves shaping how our agents, underwriters, and operations teams interact with the platform every day. This is a high-impact role where you'll collaborate closely with product, engineering, and business stakeholders to deliver experiences that are clear, consistent, and genuinely useful.

What you'll do

  • Own the user experience across Monoline's product suite: research, workflow mapping, wireframes, prototypes, and production interfaces.
  • Build and evolve our design system from the ground up: the components, patterns, and guidelines that will define every surface we ship.
  • Design and build the internal tools that underwriters, operations, and support teams rely on daily, with a focus on reducing friction and preventing costly errors.
  • Partner with engineering on interaction patterns, information architecture, and visual design, then implement directly in the codebase.
  • Establish the UX practices (usability testing, design critiques, lightweight research) that will scale with the team.

What we're looking for

  • 5 years combining product design and front-end engineering, with a portfolio that shows genuine depth in both.
  • Strong design fundamentals: user research, interaction design, visual hierarchy, typography, and a point of view on craft.
  • Proficiency in React and TypeScript, with experience contributing to or building design systems in production.
  • Experience designing for complex, data-dense workflows: dashboards, admin panels, multi-step forms where clarity and simplicity matters.
  • Fluency with Figma and comfort moving between design files and code without losing momentum.
  • Comfort working alongside AI coding tools like Claude Code to move between design and production code quickly.
  • Experience with low-code platforms like Retool or Superblocks for internal tooling.
  • Empathy for end users and the instinct to advocate for them, even when it's inconvenient.

Why Monoline

Join a founder-led company built on underwriting discipline and long-term profitability. This is a rare opportunity to define how users experience an entire product suite from the ground up -- with real ownership over design direction and the code that brings it to life. Work alongside a small, high-impact team that values great design, craft, and shipping things that matter. Be part of a company committed to becoming the industry leader in standalone personal umbrella insurance.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary starting at $140,000 annually. Candidate's skills, experience and abilities will be taken into consideration for final offer.
  • Annual company performance bonus
  • Equity participation in Monoline
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Unlimited time off
  • Paid parental leave
  • Flexible schedule and remote work options
