Platform & Infrastructure Engineer (m/f/d)
For our customer, EUMETSAT, we are looking for future colleagues to join our Platform and IT Infrastructure team, which is responsible for designing, deploying, and operating the operational ground segment IT infrastructure of EUMETSAT. This infrastructure includes a container orchestration platform based on Kubernetes, IaaS compute resources in an on-premise cloud, storage and network equipment, as well as all the software needed to run EUMETSAT's satellite missions on a 24x7 basis.
Tasks & Responsibilities
You will be part of the technical team responsible for the design, implementation, operations, and evolutions of the operational ground segment IT infrastructure of EUMETSAT. You will be involved in shaping how EUMETSAT operates its IT infrastructure in the coming years, evolving it towards modern cloud-native systems, involving state-of-the-art automation and GitOps patterns.
The typical tasks would include:
- Provide ground segment IT systems maintenance (routine operations, monitoring, troubleshooting, patching, and upgrading, etc.).
- Support the integration of new technologies into the existing systems.
- Design, maintain, and improve infrastructure automation strategies, as well as develop, enhance, and maintain IaC (Infrastructure as Code) scripts and configurations (e.g., Terraform, Ansible) to automate infrastructure provisioning and management.
- Collaboration with cross-functional teams, including development, operations, and security, to ensure a successful evolution of EUMETSAT's systems.
- Provide support by responding to tickets and issues escalated from lower-level support teams.
Depending on your seniority and role, your tasks might also include:
- Team leadership and coordination.
- Service and project management of the activities assigned to the team.
- Acting as the prime interface between EUMETSAT and TERMA for activities related to the team area.
Candidate Profile
Required Skills and Experience:
- Experience in GNU/Linux administration using multiple distributions.
- Experience with container orchestration (Rancher, Docker, Kubernetes, ...) and the ability to deploy, manage, and troubleshoot container environments.
- Good understanding of computer networks and related security concepts.
- Experience with administration and maintenance of Virtualization platforms (vSphere).
- Programming or scripting experience.
- Experience in developing CI/CD pipelines.
- Fluent in using Infrastructure as Code toolset (like GIT, Terraform, Ansible, or similar tools).
- Self-motivated and able to work independently in an organized and disciplined manner, particularly in relation to applying engineering standards and methods.
- Degree in an IT-related study.
- Fluency in English.
- Good written and verbal communication and teamwork skills.
Experience in some of the below is considered an advantage:
- Experience in developing cloud-native applications.
- Experience in requirements elicitation, analysis, and verification.
- Experience in designing, implementing, and delivering highly available, secure, and large-scale enterprise IT solutions.
- Experience with the creation of Architectural Design documents, Data Flow, and UML diagrams.
- Experience with executing infrastructure updates within a structured Change Management framework.
- Familiarity with cloud-native monitoring and observability tools, such as Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, or similar.
Work Location
This is a hybrid position with an average 50% weekly onsite presence at EUMETSAT premises in Darmstadt, Germany. Teleworking/Home office from a commuting distance to EUMETSAT for the rest of the time is possible.
