This role supports current and upcoming remote consulting opportunities focused on analysing generative music across multiple languages. Selected professionals will apply their musical training and language fluency to transcribe melodies by ear, interpret sung lyrics, identify key musical characteristics, and produce accurate technical annotations across diverse vocal styles and recording conditions.

Key Responsibilities

Melody Transcription & Ear-Based Analysis

  • Transcribe sung melodies by ear with accurate pitch, rhythm, and note duration
  • Identify melodic phrasing, rests, repeated passages, and expressive timing
  • Distinguish lead vocals from harmonies, background vocals, and instrumentation
  • Review difficult or unclear passages through careful repeated listening

Musical Structure & Technical Review

  • Identify key, tempo, time signature, instrumentation, and overall musical structure
  • Assess rhythm, melody, harmony, phrasing, and stylistic consistency
  • Document musical characteristics using clear and accurate terminology
  • Review annotations for technical accuracy and consistency

Multilingual Lyric Interpretation

  • Interpret sung lyrics accurately in the relevant target language
  • Account for accents, regional pronunciation, stylised delivery, and unclear articulation
  • Identify missing, repeated, or ambiguous words within recorded performances
  • Maintain the original meaning and natural language use when preparing lyric annotations

Quality Review & Calibration

  • Follow structured project guidelines for transcription and musical analysis
  • Compare completed work against the source audio and correct discrepancies
  • Apply feedback consistently across future assignments
  • Flag uncertain passages and explain interpretation decisions clearly
  • Maintain reliable quality across different genres, languages, and recording styles

Ideal Profile

Strong candidates may have:

  • Formal musical training or several years of professional music experience
  • Experience as a musician, composer, transcriber, audio engineer, producer, or music teacher
  • Strong ear-training skills and the ability to identify pitch and rhythm accurately
  • Advanced fluency in at least one eligible project language
  • Confidence interpreting sung lyrics, including accented or less clearly articulated vocals
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently
  • Availability to contribute approximately 2--5 hours per week during the pilot phase

Educational Background

  • A degree or formal training in music, composition, performance, music production, audio engineering, or a related field is helpful
  • Conservatory study, professional musicianship, or equivalent practical experience is highly relevant
  • Training in transcription, music theory, ear development, or vocal performance may be especially valuable
  • Native or near-native language proficiency may be considered alongside professional musical experience

Nice to Have

  • Experience preparing melody, lyric, score, or MIDI transcriptions
  • Familiarity with notation software, digital audio workstations, or audio-editing tools
  • Background in multilingual music, localisation, subtitling, or lyric transcription
  • Ability to recognise subtle pitch movement, syncopation, ornamentation, and vocal phrasing
  • Previous experience with generative music, audio annotation, or structured quality review
  • Fluency in one or more of the following languages: Spanish, Portuguese, Vietnamese, Japanese, Romanian, Swedish, Korean, Arabic, Hebrew, Telugu, Croatian, Finnish, Haitian Creole, Slovak, Gujarati, Kazakh, Kyrgyz, Manipuri or Meitei, Oromo, Pashto, Shona, or Persian

Why This Opportunity

  • Apply musical and language expertise to structured remote project work
  • Contribute to high-quality multilingual music analysis and transcription workflows
  • Work on assignments aligned with ear training, lyric interpretation, and musical annotation strengths
