Vice President of Data

Role Overview

This is a strategic leadership hire. Our company is scaling its member base, expanding its clinical model, and investing heavily in AI-assisted care workflows. We are seeking a senior data leader to set the vision for the data organization, build and grow the team, and partner with the executive team to translate company strategy into a coherent data, analytics, and ML roadmap.

This is not a heads-down execution role or a narrow analytics position. We need someone who can operate with autonomy, raise the bar on data craft and rigor, and evolve the organization as we scale—especially as AI-assisted workflows and intelligent care experiences become central to our platform strategy.

Key Responsibilities

• Strategic Leadership: Set and communicate the data vision, strategy, and roadmap across data engineering, analytics, and DS/ML.
• Business Impact: Review core company metrics—engagement, retention, clinical outcomes, unit economics—and shape organizational priorities.
• Cross-functional Partnership: Collaborate with Product and Clinical teams on experiment design, sample sizing, and reading results responsibly.
• Team Development: Coach and develop managers and individual contributors across the data organization.
• Decision Making: Make tradeoff decisions between platform investment, analytics throughput, and ML/AI bets.
• Technical Collaboration: Work with engineering leadership on data architecture, real-time vs. batch needs, and model deployment.
• Safety & Compliance: Review ML model performance, drift, and clinical safety considerations before shipping into care workflows.
• Executive Presence: Represent data in board conversations, investor updates, and cross-functional planning.

Stakeholder Collaboration

• CEO & Executive Team: Strategy, metrics, and reporting.
• Data Org: Data engineers, analytics engineers, analysts, data scientists, and ML engineers.
• Product & Engineering: Instrumentation, experimentation, and ML in production.
• Clinical Leadership: Outcomes, quality measurement, and model evaluation.
• Business Units: Growth, marketing, finance, and operations.
• Compliance & Security: PHI handling, HIPAA, audit, and access controls.

Expectations

We move quickly, so there is an expectation that the VP can drive clarity and decisions even when the brief is incomplete, the data is messy, and the model evaluation is not clean. This role reports directly to the CEO and is a member of the executive team.

• Backend: AWS, MySQL, Java/Spring Boot, Python, JSON/REST APIs
