Job Description

We are seeking a mid-level Mechanical Design Engineer with experience in analytic and design skills, particularly in composite structures, to join our dynamic team. This role involves working on innovative projects in the unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) space, where you'll have the opportunity to design, prototype, and build cutting-edge products.

Responsibilities

  • Design composite structures and manage large assembly models in CAD.
  • Collaborate with Finite Element Analysis partners to optimize structural design.
  • Oversee design projects to meet cost, schedule, and performance targets.
  • Create interface control documents and generate product and sub-system requirements.
  • Fabricate and test prototypes, interfacing with vendors for manufacturing.
  • Generate fully and minimally dimensioned drawings and maintain BOMs.
  • Prepare design presentations and summaries to document work.
  • Demonstrate initiative in understanding tasks and seeking input when necessary.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering; advanced degrees and professional licensing are a plus.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in a mechanical engineering role.
  • Experience with composite structure design and familiarity with manufacturing techniques such as composites molding and 3D printing.
  • Proficiency in Solidworks (at least 2 years of experience) and Finite Element Analysis software.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications: Excel, Word, PowerPoint.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with Matlab, Octave, or Labview for analysis.
  • Project management or project lead experience.
  • Familiarity with hand tools used for light prototyping.
  • Knowledge of aircraft or unmanned aircraft systems is a strong plus.
  • Hands-on experience in building and prototyping designs.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Portland, OR.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $38.00 - $58.00/hr.
