Water Asset Technician
Join a dynamic team as a Water Asset Technician, where you will play a crucial role in inspecting water asset valves, hydrants, meters, and water meter boxes for leakage. You will employ specialized equipment, such as acoustic sensors, to detect leaks and report potential issues to the project manager. This position offers the opportunity to work outdoors, leveraging your skills to contribute to water conservation and management.
Responsibilities
- Inspect water asset valves, hydrants, meters, and water meter boxes for leakage.
- Use headphones and acoustic sensors to listen for leaks and notify the project manager of potential issues.
- Collaborate with a project manager and travel to job sites.
- Utilize phone applications to map out locations and work outside in various weather conditions.
- Conduct non-revenue water recovery and control services, including leak detection, planning and deploying acoustic noise loggers, and flow and pressure data recovery.
- Maintain and operate equipment used by the Water Asset Management division.
- Complete job forms, time sheets, and all other required documentation.
- Ensure safe working methods and participate in weekly safety meetings.
- Read, interpret, and measure Map/GIS information.
- Facilitate leak detection work requirements and advise on night work as needed.
- Find solutions in the field to benefit customers and the Water Asset Management division.
- Attend or conduct site meetings with clients as required.
- Maintain equipment upkeep for specific projects and conduct quarterly stock checks.
Essential Skills
- Experience with GIS, water treatment, and water utilities.
- Proficiency in leak detection, meter reading software, troubleshooting, safety procedures, and documentation.
- Ability to use mapping software, including ArcGIS.
- Experience in working with water distribution systems and/or acoustic leak detection is desirable.
- Capable of walking up to 10 miles per day with frequent bending and lifting up to 20 lbs.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Safety-conscious and willing to consent to a drug screen.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Degree in Environmental Science, GIS, Biology, Geology, or a related field is preferred.
- High school diploma or GED required if no degree, with at least one to two years of experience in a physically demanding job.
- Experience in Map/GIS information reading, interpreting, and measuring is preferred.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including travel and extended work hours.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal instruction.
Work Environment
This position will be based in Illinois, with remote work from home when not on a job site. The role involves working 8-hour days, either five days a week or four 10-hour days, ensuring a minimum of 40 hours per week. The job requires travel, with an average of two-week trips, including potential travel to Florida, Michigan, Texas, and other locations. A company vehicle and phone will be provided, so a driver's license and smartphone proficiency are essential. The company card covers hotel, food, and other travel expenses. Long-term opportunities include advancement to more GIS-focused roles and project management positions.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Chicago, IL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $21.00/hr.
