Join AECOM's Civil Engineer - Highway / Transportation Design Team in Pittsburgh, PA to work on a variety of challenging and interesting projects. Projects range from roadway and site-civil design, highway and bridge projects, traffic engineering analysis, and transportation planning studies. The Pittsburgh team is part of our Greater Pennsylvania Area (GPA) which has close to 90 Engineers and nearly 30 experienced Project Managers who will help support and mentor you for career growth! This role could alternatively be officed in Morgantown, WV on a hybrid basis.

Recent Notable Projects

  • I-80 Reconstruction (Jefferson County, PA) - Six-mile section of rural interstate reconstruction including mainline widening, interchange ramp improvements, and reconstruction of two overhead bridges.
  • I-70 Reconstruction (Washington County, PA) - Model-based delivery project for a six-mile section of rural interstate reconstruction including mainline widening, interchange ramp improvements, and reconstruction of 18 structures through the corridor.
  • W Washington St Reconstruction (Bradford, PA) - Drainage model-based delivery pilot project for a one-mile section of urban corridor, including full depth roadway reconstruction, sidewalk improvements and drainage upgrades.

Responsibilities

  • Develop design criteria, horizontal and vertical alignments, superelevation, barrier/guiderail design, and spot elevation details.
  • Identify utility conflicts and coordinate resolutions based on interdisciplinary constructability reviews, client feedback, and utility needs.
  • Develop construction specifications, quantities, and cost estimates.
  • Implement 3D CADD modeling techniques.
  • Develop technical reports, tables, and graphics per client and/or internal AECOM standards.
  • Adhere to and promote AECOM quality procedures.
  • Complete interdisciplinary technical reviews.
  • Contribute to internal project-related staffing decisions to facilitate meeting client schedule, scope, and budget.
  • Prepare presentations that explain technical findings, recommendations, and limitations.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a larger design team to proactively meet the client's scope, budget, and schedule through ethical and responsible decision making.
  • Provide support to AECOM project managers and department managers.
  • Minimal travel of up to 5 - 10% for client meetings or site visits.

  • Generally free to determine work priorities based on direction from manager and project team leads.
  • Begins to interact directly with client to gather information.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent engineering degree plus four (4) years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certification.
  • Demonstrated experience using Bentley OpenRoads Designer (ORD), AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or similar design highway or transportation design applications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Design experience with PennDOT and/or Pennsylvania Turnpike projects.
  • Experience in civil engineering with an emphasis on Roadway, Drainage, Traffic, Site-Civil projects.
  • Demonstrated experience with spreadsheets, word processing, and standard office software (MS Office).
  • Ability and willingness to offer mentorship to various levels of staff.
  • Ability and willingness to operate within a hybrid work schedule environment with hybrid teams.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License in any state, or ability to obtain PE within 1 year of hire.
  • Degree accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET.

Compensation

$90,000-$90,000 per year
