About The Role

The Clinical Data Scientist role at Harnham offers an exciting opportunity for professionals passionate about advancing healthcare through meticulous data analysis and management. This hybrid or remote position is integral to supporting the final stages of the clinical data pipeline, ensuring that complex datasets are transformed into clean, standardized, and analysis-ready formats. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Clinical Operations, Data Platform Engineering, and AI/ML specialists, to uphold the highest standards of data accuracy, traceability, and regulatory compliance. This role is ideal for someone with a keen eye for detail, technical versatility, and a commitment to delivering high-quality clinical data that supports critical research and regulatory submissions.

Qualifications

Educational background required includes a BSc or MSc in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Life Sciences, or a related field. Candidates should possess 2-5+ years of experience in clinical data science, statistical programming, or clinical data management within pharmaceutical, biotech, or related environments. Technical proficiency in SAS, R, Python, and SQL is essential, with familiarity in version control systems such as Git being advantageous. Experience working with CDISC SDTM/ADaM standards and understanding of oncology endpoints like RECIST and survival analysis, as well as real-world data (RWD), is highly desirable. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong expertise in cleaning and integrating complex datasets, with the ability to work effectively with unstructured text or NLP-derived outputs. Excellent attention to detail, strong communication skills, and a collaborative mindset are critical for success in this role.

Responsibilities

In this role, the Clinical Data Scientist will be responsible for transforming raw and unstructured clinical data into standardized formats such as CDISC SDTM and ADaM, or client-specific data models. This involves building analysis-ready datasets from diverse sources including electronic medical records (EMRs), electronic data capture (EDC) systems, and internal abstraction tools. Developing statistical programs to generate Tables, Listings, and Figures (TLFs) for clinical study reports and interim analyses using SAS, R, or Python is a core task. Ensuring data integrity through comprehensive cleaning, validation, and discrepancy investigations is vital to maintain high-quality outputs.

The role also entails close collaboration with engineering teams to automate workflows for data cleaning and validation, serving as an early tester and internal user of new data infrastructure tools. Documentation is a key responsibility, including creating data specifications, derivation logic, reviewer guides, and Define.xml files to support audits and regulatory submissions. The Clinical Data Scientist will support ad hoc and exploratory analyses, providing insights and data queries to internal and external stakeholders. Maintaining ethical and compliant data management practices in accordance with privacy and security regulations such as HIPAA is essential, promoting responsible handling of sensitive clinical data.

Harnham offers a competitive salary package commensurate with experience, qualifications, and location. Employees are eligible for equity participation, annual performance bonuses, and a comprehensive benefits package that includes health insurance, retirement plans, and professional development opportunities. The company fosters a flexible work environment, supporting hybrid or fully remote working arrangements to promote work-life balance. Additionally, Harnham encourages continuous learning and growth, providing access to industry-leading training resources and networking opportunities.
