Job description

Caribbean Language & Culture Expert (AI Training)

About The Role

What if your deep knowledge of Jamaican Patois, Caribbean English, and island culture could directly shape how AI communicates with millions of people across the Caribbean and the diaspora? We're looking for Caribbean Language & Culture Experts in Jamaica to evaluate and improve AI-generated content --- ensuring it captures the authentic voice, rhythm, and cultural nuance that Caribbean communities actually recognize as their own.

AI still struggles with Caribbean language. It misses the register shifts between standard English and Patois, flattens cultural references, and gets the tone wrong. That's where you come in.

This is a fully remote, flexible contract role. No AI background needed --- just genuine expertise in Caribbean language and culture, and a sharp eye for what sounds real versus what sounds off.

  • Organization: Alignerr
  • Type: Hourly Contract
  • Location: Remote
  • Commitment: 10--40 hours/week

What You'll Do

  • Review AI-generated content involving Caribbean languages, dialects, and cultural references for accuracy and authenticity
  • Identify mistranslations, unnatural phrasing, cultural misrepresentations, and tone-deaf outputs
  • Evaluate whether AI captures the right register --- from formal Caribbean English to informal Patois and Creole
  • Suggest clear, idiomatic, and culturally grounded improvements that reflect how Caribbean people actually speak and write
  • Provide structured, detailed feedback on linguistic accuracy, cultural sensitivity, and overall quality
  • Flag stereotypes, outdated references, or content that misrepresents Caribbean communities
  • Work independently and asynchronously --- fully on your own schedule

Who You Are

  • Native or deeply fluent speaker of Jamaican Patois and/or Jamaican English with strong command of local idioms and expressions
  • Strong cultural knowledge of Jamaica and the wider Caribbean --- traditions, music, food, humor, social norms, and daily life
  • Excellent written communication skills in English
  • Naturally detail-oriented with a consistent, methodical approach
  • Comfortable evaluating written content across a wide variety of topics
  • Passionate about authentic Caribbean representation in technology
  • No prior AI or tech experience required

Nice to Have

  • Knowledge of other Caribbean Creoles or regional language varieties beyond Jamaica
  • Experience in translation, localization, editing, linguistics, or cultural consulting
  • Familiarity with AI tools or language evaluation workflows
  • Background in Caribbean studies, anthropology, education, communications, or journalism
  • Knowledge of Jamaican diaspora communities and how language evolves abroad --- in the UK, US, Canada, and beyond
  • Academic or professional work involving Creole linguistics, Caribbean literature, or Jamaican language studies

Why Join Us

  • Work on cutting-edge AI projects alongside leading research labs
  • Fully remote and flexible --- work when and where it suits you
  • Freelance autonomy with the structure of meaningful, task-based work
  • Help ensure AI actually understands and respects Caribbean voices --- not just mainstream English
  • Contribute to groundbreaking representation work that few others are doing in the AI space
  • Potential for ongoing work and contract extension as new projects launch
