Development Economist (AI Training)

About The Role

We're looking for development economists to help shape how AI understands one of the most consequential fields in global affairs. Your expertise in growth, inequality, and international development will directly influence the accuracy and depth of next-generation AI systems --- work that has real-world implications for how these tools inform policy, research, and public understanding.

What You'll Do

  • Review and evaluate development economics questions, scenarios, and explanations used in AI training datasets
  • Assess the quality of AI-generated reasoning on topics such as economic growth, poverty, inequality, and global development
  • Provide structured, critical feedback to improve factual accuracy, analytical depth, and contextual nuance
  • Apply your academic or professional experience to validate real-world economic scenarios
  • Work independently and asynchronously --- on a schedule that fits your life

Who You Are

  • 3+ years of experience researching or teaching development economics
  • Strong command of global economic issues, development theory, and data interpretation
  • Able to critically evaluate written economic reasoning and clearly articulate what's missing or incorrect
  • Comfortable working through structured review tasks with attention to detail
  • Self-motivated and reliable when working independently

Nice to Have

  • Graduate degree in Economics or a closely related field
  • Experience working in the field, with NGOs, or in international policy settings
  • Familiarity with AI systems, content evaluation, or data annotation workflows
