Job description

About The Role

What if your deep expertise in materials science could directly shape how AI reasons through some of the most complex problems in modern science? We're looking for Materials Science experts --- Masters and PhD holders --- to help train and evaluate cutting-edge AI models working on semiconductor materials, molecular modeling, and related domains.

This is a fully remote, flexible contract role built for researchers and domain specialists who want to contribute to frontier AI without leaving their area of expertise. No AI background needed --- just rigorous scientific knowledge and a sharp eye for quality.

  • Organization: Alignerr
  • Type: Hourly Contract
  • Location: Remote
  • Commitment: 10--40 hours/week

What You'll Do

  • Develop, solve, and critically review advanced materials science problems with real-world relevance
  • Apply your expertise in semiconductor materials, molecular modeling, or related fields to craft complex, rigorous problem statements
  • Evaluate AI-generated scientific reasoning and outputs for accuracy, depth, and clarity
  • Collaborate asynchronously with AI researchers and fellow domain experts to improve AI model performance
  • Ensure scientific rigor and precision across all deliverables
  • Work independently on task-based assignments --- fully on your own schedule

Who You Are

  • Master's or PhD in Materials Science or a closely related field from an accredited university
  • Strong expertise in semiconductor materials, molecular modeling, or an adjacent specialization
  • Comfortable coding in Python or MATLAB for research or technical problem-solving
  • Exceptional written communication skills --- you can explain complex science with clarity and precision
  • Naturally detail-oriented with a systematic, thorough approach to your work
  • Fluent in English

Nice to Have

  • Prior experience with data annotation, data quality review, or evaluation systems
  • Background in computational materials science or materials informatics
  • Experience writing technical documentation, research papers, or scientific assessments
  • Familiarity with AI tools or model evaluation workflows

Why Join Us

  • Work on cutting-edge AI projects alongside leading AI research labs
  • Fully remote and flexible --- work when and where it suits you
  • Freelance autonomy with the structure of meaningful, task-based scientific work
  • Make a direct, tangible impact on how AI understands and reasons through materials science
  • Potential for ongoing work and contract extension as new projects launch
