Mathematics Expert (AI Training)

About The Role

What if your advanced mathematics expertise could directly shape how AI reasons through the world's most complex problems? We're looking for Mathematics Experts --- holders of Master's degrees and PhDs --- to help train and evaluate cutting-edge AI models, ensuring they think rigorously, reason accurately, and solve problems the way a true expert would.

This is a fully remote, flexible contract role built for serious mathematicians. You'll work asynchronously alongside world-class AI research teams, applying deep domain knowledge to problems that matter.

  • Organization: Alignerr
  • Type: Hourly Contract
  • Location: Remote
  • Commitment: 10--40 hours/week

What You'll Do

  • Develop, solve, and critically review advanced mathematical problems with real-world relevance and depth
  • Design complex problem statements drawing on expertise in algebra, calculus, statistics, discrete mathematics, or related areas
  • Evaluate AI-generated mathematical reasoning for rigor, accuracy, and clarity --- and provide structured, expert-level feedback
  • Collaborate asynchronously with AI researchers and domain experts to enhance model reasoning capabilities
  • Ensure mathematical precision and intellectual depth across all deliverables

Who You Are

  • Holder of a Master's or PhD in Mathematics or a closely related field
  • Deeply fluent in at least one core area: algebra, calculus, statistics, or discrete mathematics
  • Experienced using Python, MATLAB, Mathematica, or similar tools for research or technical work
  • Exceptionally clear and precise in written communication --- you can explain hard things well
  • Self-directed and comfortable working independently without close supervision
  • Naturally detail-oriented with high standards for mathematical correctness

Nice to Have

  • Prior experience with data annotation, data quality evaluation, or AI training workflows
  • Background in applied mathematics, theoretical research, or quantitative fields
  • Familiarity with AI or machine learning systems as a user or researcher
  • Experience writing or reviewing technical documentation, proofs, or research papers

Why Join Us

  • Work on frontier AI projects alongside leading research labs shaping the future of artificial intelligence
  • Fully remote and flexible --- work when and where it suits you, on your own schedule
  • Freelance autonomy with the structure of meaningful, intellectually stimulating work
  • Make a direct and lasting impact on how AI understands and reasons through mathematics
  • Potential for ongoing work and contract extension as new projects launch
