Mathematics Expert (AI Training)

About The Role

What if your expertise in advanced mathematics could directly shape how AI reasons through the world's most complex problems? We're looking for Mathematics Experts --- Masters and PhD holders --- to help train cutting-edge AI models to think more rigorously, solve harder problems, and reason with genuine mathematical depth.

This is a fully remote, flexible contract role built for working mathematicians, researchers, and academics who want to apply their expertise in a high-impact, well-compensated setting. No prior AI experience needed --- just a deep command of mathematics and a commitment to precision.

  • Organization: Alignerr
  • Type: Hourly Contract
  • Location: Remote
  • Commitment: 10--40 hours/week

What You'll Do

  • Develop, solve, and review advanced mathematical problems with real-world relevance and rigor
  • Apply your expertise in algebra, calculus, statistics, discrete mathematics, or related fields to design complex, meaningful problem sets
  • Evaluate AI-generated mathematical reasoning and solutions for accuracy, depth, and clarity
  • Collaborate asynchronously with AI researchers and domain experts to improve model performance
  • Ensure mathematical precision and conceptual soundness across all deliverables
  • Work independently on task-based assignments --- fully on your own schedule

Who You Are

  • Hold a Master's or PhD in Mathematics or a closely related field
  • Deep expertise in one or more areas: algebra, calculus, statistics, discrete mathematics, or adjacent domains
  • Comfortable working with Python, MATLAB, or Mathematica for research or applied problem-solving
  • Exceptionally detail-oriented --- you notice when a proof is incomplete or an argument doesn't hold
  • Clear, precise written communicator who can explain complex ideas without sacrificing accuracy
  • Fluent in English and based in the U.S., Canada, U.K., Australia, or New Zealand

Nice to Have

  • Prior experience with data annotation, evaluation systems, or AI training workflows
  • Background in mathematical research, academic publishing, or technical writing
  • Experience working across multiple areas of mathematics
  • Familiarity with AI tools or language model evaluation as an end user

Why Join Us

  • Work on frontier AI projects alongside the world's leading research labs
  • Fully remote and flexible --- structure your hours around your life, not the other way around
  • Freelance autonomy with the substance of meaningful, intellectually challenging work
  • Make a direct, measurable impact on how AI understands and applies advanced mathematics
  • Potential for ongoing work and contract extension as new projects launch
