Job description

Senior Machine Learning Expert (AI Training)

About The Role

What if your deep expertise in machine learning could directly shape how the world's most advanced AI systems reason, plan, and make decisions? We're looking for Senior Machine Learning Experts to author the high-fidelity reasoning traces that teach large language models how to think --- step by step, task by task.

This isn't passive annotation work. This is architectural-level thinking applied to one of the most consequential challenges in AI: making models reason reliably in the real world. If you've spent years decomposing complex technical problems and you know what good model decision-making actually looks like, this role was built for you.

This is a fully remote, flexible contract role with meaningful work and serious intellectual challenge.

  • Organization: Alignerr
  • Type: Hourly Contract
  • Location: Remote
  • Commitment: 10--40 hours/week

What You'll Do

  • Author complex, high-fidelity reasoning traces for sophisticated technical tasks --- documenting planning, tool use, and step-by-step decision-making in ways that directly train LLM behavior
  • Design data strategies that help LLMs navigate intricate, real-world problem-solving scenarios
  • Review and mentor structured traces to ensure they meet the highest standards of logical clarity and technical accuracy
  • Apply senior-level ML insight to ensure reasoning outputs reflect sound architectural thinking
  • Work independently and asynchronously --- on your own schedule, at your own pace

Who You Are

  • Experienced in machine learning, AI research, or closely related technical fields --- with a strong focus on model reasoning and decision-making
  • Skilled at decomposing complex problems into clear, logical, well-documented steps
  • Familiar with advanced LLM evaluation and training methodologies
  • Naturally rigorous and detail-oriented --- you care deeply about the quality and correctness of your outputs
  • Comfortable working independently without hand-holding

Nice to Have

  • Prior experience with data annotation, data quality assurance, or model evaluation systems
  • Top-tier Kaggle competition results (Grandmaster or Master level), reflecting deep understanding of model performance and feature engineering
  • Background in ML research, applied AI, or technical AI safety work
  • Experience writing structured technical documentation or evaluation rubrics

Why Join Us

  • Work on cutting-edge AI projects alongside leading research labs and AI teams
  • Fully remote and flexible --- work when and where it suits you
  • Freelance autonomy with intellectually demanding, high-impact work
  • Contribute directly to how the next generation of AI models reason and operate in the real world
  • Potential for ongoing work and contract extension as new projects launch
