About Ambitus AI:
Ambitus AI is an applied-AI product and research company. Our work helps frontier labs and top enterprises train, test, and deploy AI agents that automate high ROI tasks.
We're a highly technical team based in San Francisco with backgrounds from Mercor, Google, Stanford, and more.
As a Game Level Design Specialist, you'd help us create training data for a project with one of the world's top AI labs.
Your role:
As a Game Level Design Specialist, you will apply your professional experience in level design and gameplay scripting to help design, execute, and evaluate realistic level design workflows. The core objective of this role is to translate real, day-to-day level design reasoning into structured tasks and evaluations, enabling AI systems to learn how experienced designers construct playable levels that teach mechanics, manage pacing, and deliver intended player experiences.
Compensation:
- Compensation: $100-120/hour
- Commitment: 15-40 hours per week
- Type: Contract, part-time
- Location: Fully remote
What you'll do:
- Execute tasks within the Godot Engine to validate feasibility and establish ground-truth solutions
- Write detailed task specifications for level design workflows, including clear prompts, expected outputs, and grading criteria
- Construct playable levels, place enemies and interactive objects, tune pacing and difficulty, and assemble set-pieces that support intended gameplay experiences
- Define grading rubrics that assess both technical execution (e.g., correct collision setup, functional scripting, TileMap/mesh configuration) and design judgment (e.g., teach-through-play, difficulty curve, readability, risk/reward)
- Provide clear, written documentation of your workflows, reasoning, and quality assessments
What we're looking for:
We are specifically seeking experienced level designers with strong design fundamentals and hands-on production experience.
Relevant Backgrounds:
- Proficiency and fluency with Godot Engine, Unity, Unreal, or similar game engines
- Level designers or game designers working in studios or indie development
- Freelance game developers with a portfolio of shipped levels or playable prototypes
- Hands-on experience with scene/node composition, tile- or mesh-based level construction, and gameplay scripting
- Familiarity with pacing, difficulty tuning, and the fundamentals of teach-through-play
