About Ambitus AI:
Ambitus AI is an applied-AI product and research company. Our work helps frontier labs and top enterprises train, test, and deploy AI agents that automate high ROI tasks. We're a highly technical team based in San Francisco with backgrounds from Mercor, Google, Stanford, and more.
As a Geophysicist / Seismic Interpretation Specialist, you'd help us create training data for a project with one of the world's top AI labs.
Your role:
As a Geophysicist / Seismic Interpretation Specialist, you will apply your professional expertise in geosciences, structural geology, and exploration geophysics to help design, execute, and evaluate realistic seismic interpretation workflows. The core objective of this role is to translate real, day-to-day subsurface interpretation reasoning into structured tasks and evaluations, enabling AI systems to learn how experienced geoscientists map horizons, identify faults, and develop subsurface understanding from 3D seismic data.
Compensation:
- Compensation: $120-140/hour
- Commitment: 15-25 hours per week
- Type: Contract, part-time
- Location: Fully remote
What you'll do:
- Execute tasks within OpendTect to validate feasibility and establish ground-truth solutions
- Write detailed task specifications for seismic interpretation workflows, including clear prompts, expected outputs, and grading criteria
- Interpret horizons, digitize fault networks, compute seismic attributes, and produce structural maps from 3D seismic volumes
- Define grading rubrics that assess both technical execution (e.g., consistent horizon picks, geologically reasonable fault sticks) and interpretive judgment (e.g., reflector continuity, fault offset recognition, distinguishing real geology from artifacts)
- Provide clear, written documentation of your workflows, reasoning, and quality assessments
What we're looking for:
We are specifically seeking experienced geoscientists, geophysicists, and seismic interpreters with formal training in geosciences and hands-on 3D subsurface interpretation experience.
Relevant Backgrounds:
- Degree in geosciences, geophysics, geology, or a closely related earth science discipline
- Proficiency and fluency with OpendTect, Petrel, Kingdom, DecisionSpace, or similar interpretation platforms
- Seismic interpreters, exploration geophysicists, or development geophysicists
- Geoscientists with experience at oil & gas operators, service companies, or in geothermal/carbon storage subsurface projects
- Independent consultants with a portfolio of basin, play, prospect, or field-level interpretation work
- Hands-on experience with horizon picking, fault interpretation, attribute analysis, well-tie integration, and structural mapping
