Apex Systems is seeking a REMOTE AI Software Engineer (Agentic AI) for a 6-month contract with strong potential for extension. This is a fully remote position with a standard Monday-Friday schedule.

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, deploy, and maintain AI-driven software solutions to enhance enterprise operational workflows.
• Build AI agents using modern techniques like prompt engineering, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), agent orchestration frameworks, function calling, evaluation methods, and guardrails.
• Apply strong software engineering, DevOps, and security best practices, including CI/CD pipelines, version control, testing strategies, and secure coding standards.
• Design and implement data pipelines and models powering AI solutions, collaborating with data engineering teams for scalability, reliability, and data quality.
• Develop AI services and integrations using Python, SQL, and web frameworks such as Flask or FastAPI.
• Package and deploy AI solutions using containerization tools like Docker and Kubernetes.
• Collaborate with business, product, and technical stakeholders to understand use cases and translate needs into effective AI solutions.
• Partner with infrastructure, security, and data teams to define technical requirements and ensure smooth system integration.
• Communicate project status, risks, and needs to leadership and stakeholders.
• Take end-to-end ownership of projects with minimal supervision.
• Mentor junior engineers through code reviews, pairing, and architectural guidance.
• Stay current on emerging AI technologies and contribute to the evolution of internal AI platforms and practices.

Experience:

• 3-5 years of experience in software engineering, AI/ML engineering, or data science, with at least 1 year focused on agent-based or LLM-driven solutions.
• Hands-on experience with AI agent frameworks or SDKs.
• Familiarity with agent communication or coordination protocols.
• Strong experience in cloud environments (Google Cloud Platform preferred; AWS or Azure acceptable).
• Proficiency in Python, API development, SQL, system design, and DevOps/AIOps practices.
• Experience monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimizing deployed AI or software solutions.
• Strong analytical skills and ability to solve complex, open-ended problems.

Nice to Have:

• Advanced degree in a relevant technical field.
• Experience with advanced AI techniques such as model fine-tuning or custom algorithm development.
• Exposure to enterprise operational systems or platforms.
• Experience with modern cloud data platforms.
• Hands-on experience with managed AI platforms and tooling.
