Shift: 3rd shift, 8-hour, 5-day work weeks (Monday-Friday mornings)
Role Overview
The successful candidate will be responsible for the advanced configuration and operating system upgrades of carrier-class Cisco and Nokia equipment that tie together a complex, multivendor nationwide data network. You will work on virtualization technologies, assist with implementation responsibilities for one or more COINs, and collaborate with Engineering teams to transition from VXLAN to the eNSE platform.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, prioritize, and schedule maintenance window changes with internal and external groups.
- Implement configuration changes for directional Intelligent Edge Networks (SAP eNSE fabric, Access eNSE fabric, EPC element migration, ISP peering, etc.).
- Leverage automation tools like Python, NSO, DCNM, VTS, Pronghorn, and Nuage.
- Perform transport circuit turn-up and troubleshooting.
- Work remotely with local operation teams across the U.S. to deploy and troubleshoot racked routers and switches.
- Engineer network configuration for the onboarding of private cloud tenants.
- Perform BAU maintenance (ACL updates, software upgrades) on eNSE fabric.
- Utilize network monitoring tools to ensure equipment functions according to standards.
- Maintain accountability for MOP reviews and automated dry-run outputs.
- Enter changes into the "Kirke" database and ensure all notifications are approved.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or 4+ years of relevant work experience.
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including nights and occasional weekends.
- Extensive knowledge of Layer 1 troubleshooting (copper/fiber cabling: Cat5/6, SC, LC, FC, MPO).
- Expert comprehension of CLI for Nokia 7750/7706/7250, Cisco 55A1, 5504, 5508, 9508, CRS-16, Nexus 3k/5k/7K/9K.
- Experience with IP Layer 1-3 for Edge Networks and strong knowledge of MPLS.
- Hands-on experience with network virtualization and implementing updates on working devices.
- Functional knowledge of TCP/IP (IPv4 and IPv6), spine and leaf fabric networking, VXLAN, and BGP.
- Strong communication skills for leading phone calls and troubleshooting with local support.
Desired Skills
- CCNA or CCNP certifications.
- Hands-on experience with Nokia SR-OS devices.
- Experience with Cloud Computing (VMWare, Openstack, AWS, Azure, Linux, Ansible, Docker).
- 5+ years of experience with large, complex data networks.
- Understanding of 3G and 4G call flow.
