Technical Writer (DoD) - Fully Remote
Location: Fully Remote Type: Long Term Contract
Overview
Our client, a large government/DoD partner supporting enterprise cybersecurity initiatives, is seeking an experienced Technical Writer to support a high-visibility Zero Trust program. This is a fully remote opportunity supporting mission-critical work.
Job Description
- Writing and editing policies, standard operating procedures, and technical guides to provide clear, concise, and accurate documentation
- Developing Air Force Technical Orders (TOs and Time Compliance Technical Orders - TCTOs) and Telecommunication Survey Installation Plans (TSIP) and Installation Plans (I-Plans)
- Reviewing existing documents to assess accuracy, compliance, and identify areas for improvement
- Handling sensitive information while ensuring compliance with DoD security regulations and classification requirements
- Managing multiple documents, versions, and revisions while meeting deadlines
- Creating visualizations within documentation (data flow diagrams, network diagrams, charts, graphs, etc.)
- Tracking and supporting documentation requirements for the ATO process (including work within eMASS)
- Collaborating with DoD stakeholders to gather, validate, and maintain up-to-date documentation
- Ensuring all documentation meets DoD standards, compliance frameworks, and regulatory requirements
Basic Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience as a Technical Writer (strongly focused in DoD environments)
- Active DoD Secret Clearance
- Experience developing technical documentation and Technical Orders (TOs/TCTOs), TSIPs, and I-Plans
- Experience with the DoD eMASS system supporting ATO processes
- Strong attention to detail and ability to produce clear, accurate documentation
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and document versions effectively
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Familiarity with document management systems and tools (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite)
- Ability to handle sensitive information with professionalism and discretion
- Understanding of DoD standards, best practices, and compliance requirements
- Familiarity with DoD documentation classification markings and handling of classified materials
