Payroll Specialist

Payroll & AP Specialist | Remote | Contract | $45--$50/hr

Aprio is partnering with a fast-growing, better-for-you restaurant brand to find a detail-oriented Payroll & AP Specialist for an immediate contract engagement. Fully remote, ASAP start, with potential for extension or conversion to permanent.

What You'll Be Doing

• Run multi-state payroll across 8 states including California, Texas, Florida, Illinois, and more.
• Own the full AP cycle --- vendor onboarding, invoice processing, payment runs, and reconciliations.
• Manage payroll tax filings and registrations as the company expands into new states.
• Track and maintain business licenses, health permits, food handler certifications, and sales tax registrations across all locations.
• Build and maintain Excel/Google Sheets trackers for payroll costs, AP aging, and compliance status.
• Reconcile payroll and AP accounts during monthly close.
• Identify process inefficiencies and drive improvements in a fast-paced, scaling environment.
• Respond to employee payroll questions with accuracy and professionalism.

What We're Looking For

• 2--4 years of payroll, AP, or accounting experience.
• Multi-state payroll experience required --- California payroll regulations a must.
• Strong Excel and/or Google Sheets skills --- pivot tables, lookups, large datasets.
• Experience with Rippling preferred --- other major payroll systems acceptable.
• Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
• Able to work independently in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
• Degree in accounting, finance, business, or related field.
