Job Overview

The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is seeking experienced Linux (RedHat) administrators to support the implementation and operation of NC FAST Applications on AWS/Hybrid cloud. This is a 5-month project with a hybrid work schedule requiring 2-3 days onsite per week. Webcam interviews are conducted.

Responsibilities

  • Install and configure the Linux operating system on the AWS platform.
  • Manage and maintain Linux-based systems on AWS.
  • Deploy, configure, and maintain AWS services including EC2, S3, RDS, and others.
  • Perform system maintenance: review error logs, manage system backups, monitor performance, and deploy licenses.
  • Potentially set up Linux Satellite servers and deployment managers.
  • Provide technical support.
  • Be on call for evenings and weekends as needed.

Key Tasks

  • Manage, configure, and maintain Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) servers across development, staging, and production environments.
  • Develop and manage Linux scripts (Bash/Python) for operational tasks.
  • Handle user management, permissions, and access control (RBAC, sudo policies).
  • Manage patching, upgrades, and package installations based on team recommendations.
  • Implement system hardening and least privilege security best practices.
  • Manage and support backup and recovery processes at the OS level.
  • Collaborate with development and operations teams on deployment strategies and environment stability.
  • Perform system monitoring, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
  • Maintain documentation for system configurations and procedures.
  • Work with AWS Storage (FSx, EBS, EFS, S3) and Terraform (a plus).
