About the Role
Black & Veatch is seeking a Sr. Project Engineering Manager to join our Campus Infrastructure business. In this role, you will lead large, multi-discipline design teams for complex data center projects, serving as a technical specialist and Owner's representative.
Key Responsibilities
Project Execution
- Prepare complex architectural and engineering deliverables, including schematic design, detailed design, permitting, and construction documents.
- Oversee scope, schedule, cost, risk, quality, and safety performance.
- Coordinate interfaces across power generation, electrical infrastructure, data center, and interconnection scopes.
- Support change management, claims avoidance, and commercial risk alignment.
- Conduct research and develop recommendations for equipment and materials selection.
Client Interface
- Act as the primary client interface for day-to-day coordination and issue resolution.
- Understand key client interests and drivers to develop effective solutions.
- Support business development and pursuit activities.
- Manage project changes directly with the client under Project Manager supervision.
Technical Leadership
- Lead large, multi-disciplined teams (civil, architecture, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, telecom, security, and BIM).
- Provide technical guidance and leadership on projects of medium to high complexity.
- Drive solutions to achieve project goals and provide guidance on design standards, codes, and policies.
Management Responsibilities
- Review architect and engineering work assignments.
- Mentor and manage the performance of assigned personnel.
- Partner with PM, scheduling, cost, and risk resources to maintain integrated master schedules, cost forecasts, and risk registers.
- Provide executive-level reporting to clients and internal leadership.
- Coordinate integrated testing, commissioning, and turnover activities.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited program.
- Minimum of 11 years of related work experience.
- Ability to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (background check, drug screen, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum 12 years of progressive experience managing complex infrastructure or energy projects.
- Demonstrated experience in Owner's Representative, PMC, or Owner's Engineer roles.
- Strong background in mega project execution, risk mitigation, and EPC coordination.
- Understanding of design differences in hyper-scale, edge, and colocation data centers.
- Professional registration or licensure in the designated home office country is typically required.
