Job Summary

BCBST is seeking a Database Specialist to join our Commercial Operations division. This role involves providing programming services to measure, analyze, and report on underwriting performance efficiency and capabilities, aligning with organizational financial objectives. We are looking for a data-driven individual with strong communication skills, a commitment to reliable reporting, a collaborative spirit, and a keen attention to detail. The ideal candidate will be eager to learn new tools and processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze underwriting operations, developing, integrating, and modifying programs to meet financial and operational goals.
  • Assist in validating, testing, and documenting underwriting/quoting solutions.
  • Collaborate with business users to understand requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
  • Potentially conduct presentations to educate end-users on system utilization.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Computer Science, or equivalent relevant work experience.

Experience

  • 2 years of programming experience.
  • 1 year of experience with IT concepts, application development methodologies, terminology, and standards.

Skills and Certifications

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel (formulas, pivot tables, data validation).
  • SQL Server experience, including writing efficient queries, data extraction/validation, and Transact-SQL (T-SQL) for reporting.
  • Familiarity with Visual Studio and basic C# concepts.
  • Experience developing with MS Office Suite (VBA), Visual Studio (VB.net, C#, WPF, MVVM, SQL, T-SQL, XML).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Understanding of concepts related to rating formulas, tools, databases, or reports in the Insurance/Finance sector.
