Position Description

We are looking for a QA Engineer with a backend focus and an SDET-like mindset. This role is centered on API and backend testing, with automation testing experience and a deeper understanding of system behavior.

Your future duties and responsibilities

  • Execute manual testing for RESTful APIs (functional, integration, regression, negative testing)
  • Validate API endpoints using tools like Postman (payloads, headers, auth, error handling)
  • Review API specs and identify edge cases or gaps
  • Troubleshoot issues using logs and backend data to identify root causes
  • Partner with developers to report defects and validate fixes
  • Perform end-to-end testing across systems and integrations
  • Validate data across APIs, databases, and services
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies (standups, sprint planning, etc.)
  • Maintain test documentation (test cases, plans, reports)
  • Support QA process improvements and contribute to automation where possible

Required Qualifications To Be Successful In This Role

Required Experience

  • 3--7+ years of QA/SDET experience with strong API/backend testing
  • Solid understanding of REST APIs, HTTP methods, and integrations
  • Hands-on experience with Postman or similar tools
  • Ability to read JSON, XML, and write basic SQL queries
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
  • Experience working closely with engineering teams in Agile environments

Preferred

  • Some experience building QA automation scripts (any tool)
  • Exposure to CI/CD and automated testing workflows
  • Experience with microservices or cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP)

Compensation and Benefits

A reasonable estimate of the current range for this role in the U.S. is $58k to $123,800.
