Oracle Exadata DBA - 6 Month Project

This is a remote, 6-month contract opportunity for an experienced Oracle Exadata DBA to assist the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a critical infrastructure upgrade. The project involves migrating databases from Exadata Cloud at Customer (C@C) X9 servers to the new X11 servers, ensuring high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) are configured.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the migration of all ERP and non-ERP databases from Exadata X9s to the new Exadata X11 architecture.
  • Configure HA and DR for the new Exadata environments.
  • Provide expert tuning and troubleshooting for the database environments.
  • Develop and implement automation scripts for Oracle database processes.
  • Collaborate with UW-Madison personnel throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Review and help create a new Exadata database architecture.
  • Develop and execute a migration strategy and plan.

Top Skills & Experience Required:

  • Oracle Database Performance Tuning: Minimum 7 years of in-depth technical and functional knowledge.
  • RMAN and Data Guard: Minimum 5 years of experience using multiple methods and technologies.
  • Root Cause Analysis: Minimum 7 years of experience performing detailed, highly technical root cause analysis of Oracle database systems.
  • Scripting and Automation: Minimum 5 years of experience creating scripts to automate processes in Oracle database environments.

Nice to Have Skills:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience in Higher Education environments.

Project Details:

  • Duration: 6 months
  • Location: 100% Remote (Continental US)
  • Time Zone: Work will be conducted in the Central Time Zone (CST).
  • Hours: May involve some flexible hours outside of normal 8-5pm for maintenance.

Interview Process:

  • 30-minute interview via Microsoft Teams (camera on).

Additional Information:

  • Experience with Oracle releases 19.x and 26.x, multitenancy, advanced compression, partitioning, and cloud management pack is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Exadata Critical Patch updates is preferred.
  • Willingness to work alternate shifts (1st, 2nd, 3rd) and weekends as required during the engagement.
