General Description

The Consumer Credit Analyst I is responsible for performing risk analysis for secured and unsecured consumer loans. You will review, analyze, and evaluate consumer loan applications, making judgmental decisions to approve, modify, or deny applications consistent with credit union policy and guidelines. You must clearly document and communicate the reasoning for your decisions while maintaining and strengthening relationships with members and internal/external originators.

Tasks, Duties, and Functions

  • Review, analyze, and evaluate loan applications based on established policies.
  • Ensure transactions are accurate, complete, and compliant.
  • Analyze credit history, income, and financial statements to determine repayment ability.
  • Apply fraud detection and prevention techniques.
  • Calculate key lending ratios (capacity, credit utilization, Loan to Value).
  • Maintain understanding of state and federal laws (Bank Secrecy, Anti-Money Laundering, Fair Lending, Truth in Lending).
  • Communicate with originators and business partners regarding loan decisions.
  • Resolve or escalate complaints from members and staff.
  • Assist with training originators and preparing management reports.

Qualifications

Education

  • High School diploma required; Associates degree preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum 6 months in consumer lending within a judgmental lending environment using a Loan Origination System (LOS).

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and attention-to-detail skills.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts.
  • Solid interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of branch and indirect credit union lending policies.
  • Proficiency in automated loan origination systems and Microsoft programs.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, production-oriented environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged sitting with occasional mobility.
  • Corrected vision and hearing within normal range.
  • Must be flexible with scheduling, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
