General Description

The Consumer Credit Analyst II is responsible for reviewing, analyzing, and evaluating simple to complex secured and unsecured consumer loan applications. Based on your judgment, you will approve, modify, or deny applications consistent with credit union guidelines. You must clearly document and communicate the reasoning for your decisions while maintaining and strengthening relationships with members and internal/external originators. A thorough understanding of the credit union's underwriting standards, risk philosophy, credit culture, and market conditions is required.

Tasks, Duties, and Functions

  1. Review, analyze, and evaluate loan applications based on established policies and underwriting procedures to approve, counter, or deny requests.
    • Ensure transactions are accurate, complete, and compliant.
    • Review documentation for accuracy and truthfulness.
    • Apply fraud detection and prevention techniques.
    • Perform paystub and basic tax return analysis to determine ability to repay.
  2. Maintain a thorough understanding of state and federal laws and regulations related to credit union compliance, including Bank Secrecy, Anti-Money Laundering, Fair Lending, and Truth in Lending laws.
  3. Review credit reports and interpret data alongside key lending ratios to determine capacity, credit utilization, and Loan to Value.
  4. Communicate and interact with originators and external business partners regarding loan decisions.
  5. Effectively address and resolve complaints or issues raised by members, staff, and business partners.
  6. Gather information and perform analysis to assist in preparing reports.
  7. Assist with training originators regarding lending policies, processes, or procedures, and administer lending promotional campaigns.
  8. Make recommendations and assist with updating product, policy, and procedure materials.
  9. Train personnel on lending policies and procedures.
  10. Perform upgrade validations for lending systems.
  11. Assist with other lending duties as assigned.

Physical Skills and Abilities

  • Effective oral and written communication skills for interacting with staff and members.
  • Manual dexterity to operate an online computer terminal and standard office equipment (calculators, PC, fax, telephone).
  • Ability to work required hours, which may include weekend shifts and hours after 6:00 p.m.
  • Some travel may be required.

Organizational Contacts & Relationships

  • Internal: Management group and all levels of staff.
  • External: Members and external originators.

Qualifications

Education

  • High School diploma required; Associate's degree preferred.

Experience

  • 4-7 years in consumer lending in a judgmental lending environment using a Loan Origination System (LOS), or 5 years in loan processing.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong analytical and organizational skills with high attention to detail.
  • Ability to calculate figures and use logical reasoning to make objective evaluations.
  • Knowledge of key financial services industry trends impacting loan quality.
  • Solid interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of credit analysis and reporting.
  • High degree of integrity for making fair lending decisions.
  • Comprehensive understanding of branch and indirect credit union lending policies.
  • Ability to promote product lines and support lending decisions to enhance relationships.
  • Proficiency in automated loan origination systems and Microsoft programs.
  • Understanding of assigned territory market conditions and collateral values.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, production-oriented environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged sitting with occasional mobility.
  • Corrected vision and hearing within normal range.
  • Occasional movement throughout the department.
  • Flexibility with scheduling, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
