The Opportunity:

We are seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Grafana Backend team. Our managers foster a supportive environment for engineers by removing impediments, facilitating collaboration, and refining working practices. You will manage a distributed team of engineers working on diverse systems, empowering them to perform at their best.

The Grafana Backend team's mission is to evolve the Grafana visualization product's backend, architecting and delivering a robust core platform to support high-demand services. We aim to enable users and agents to observe their infrastructure and software lifecycles efficiently. Our work primarily focuses on open-source Grafana, with close collaboration with customers of our commercial offerings. A key goal is to deliver the application platform that will enable multi-tenancy in Grafana to meet growing demand. We are dedicated to understanding developers, both internal and community members, and actively engage in research to enhance the developer experience. Close collaboration with Product, Docs, and Customer Experience teams is integral to this role.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • People Management: Focus on supporting and developing engineers, fostering a positive team environment.
  • Technical Leadership: Leverage a strong software engineering background to engage in technical discussions, guide architectural decisions, and understand the Go-based backend stack.
  • Delivery & Execution: Collaborate with the team to set milestones, communicate timelines, and remove impediments to ensure successful delivery.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with product managers and stakeholders to define and maintain the product roadmap, ensuring alignment with company goals and defining OKRs.
  • Quality Focus: Prioritize quality while encouraging rapid feedback cycles and experimentation.
  • Autonomy & Empowerment: Support engineering teams in their autonomous decision-making processes, both technical and product-related.
  • Continuous Learning: Stay updated with the latest technical trends to better understand and support your team's challenges.

We support modern AI coding assistants to enhance developer productivity, providing a company-funded budget for tools and iteration. We encourage pragmatic AI-assisted development, including faster prototyping, test generation, refactors, documentation, and incident follow-ups, always maintaining strong code review and quality standards. You'll have access to frontier models.

Compensation & Rewards:

  • Base Compensation (US): USD 208,602 - USD 250,322. Actual compensation may vary based on level, experience, and skillset.
  • Benefits: Include equity, bonus (if applicable), and other comprehensive benefits.
  • Restricted Stock Units (RSUs): All roles include RSUs, providing ownership in Grafana Labs' success.
  • Compensation ranges are country-specific. Your recruiter will discuss your market's defined pay range and benefits.
