The Opportunity

The Internal Engineering Platform, managed by the Platform department, equips application engineers with the necessary tools, systems, and Kubernetes clusters for building, deploying, and running workloads. Platform roles at Grafana Labs seek individuals passionate about performance and reliability, who enjoy taking projects from conception to production. Our squads focus on areas like Cloud Infrastructure, Networking and Security; Engineering Productivity; Capacity Management; Client Administrative Tooling (CAT); and US Federal compliance.

As we deploy production services, we maintain on-call rotations to ensure system health. This is also an important way to understand our system and product usage.

About The Squad & The Role

We are hiring for the Platform Productivity squad, primarily responsible for assisting internal engineers in securely and measurably releasing software onto our infrastructure. This involves leading automation for release processes (CI/CD, bootstrapping) and guiding internal teams on using these tools through 'golden path' techniques, while also addressing edge cases.

Ultimately, we are the Platform Team for the teams building Grafana, Mimir, Loki, and Tempo.

What You'll Be Doing

• Collaborate effectively with engineers and management structures in a remote-first company. Communication, collaboration, friendliness, kindness, and respect are key. We operate by consensus.
• Embrace learning and growth, with ample opportunities for development and knowledge sharing within the team.
• Take a holistic approach to development, owning the full code lifecycle from design to decommissioning. Appreciate both the big picture and the details.
• Be a flexible software engineer, comfortable with Go as our primary language but willing to use the best tool for the job, including shell scripts.
• Gain experience operating your code, with a strong understanding of both development and operations. Proficiency with Kubernetes and Docker is essential. Experience with Infrastructure as Code (e.g., grafana/tanka) is highly valued.
• Leverage modern AI coding assistants as part of your daily workflow, with a company-funded budget for tools like GPT-Codex, Claude Opus, and Gemini Pro. We encourage pragmatic AI-assisted development, always paired with strong code review and quality standards.

• Contribute to setting the squad's roadmap, maintaining, improving, and extending existing systems.
• Participate in choosing focus areas, timelines, and sunsetting strategies for systems.
• Assist in designing, comparing, and choosing solutions for:
  • Internal Engineering Platform (IEP) development and maintenance
  • CI/CD platform management and development
  • Build, release, and deployment automation
  • Application configuration management tooling
  • Software update automation
  • Artefact management
  • Supporting diverse internal teams with their requirements
  • Participating in the on-call rotation for Platform tooling

• Platform group experience delivering services to internal engineering teams.
• Cloud environment experience.
• Infrastructure as Code with Terraform/Crossplane.
• Kubernetes administration, especially with Tanka.
• Experience or interest in implementing, integrating, and maintaining observability systems.

Compensation & Rewards

• Base Compensation Range (USA): USD 127,651 - USD 153,180. Actual compensation depends on level, experience, and skillset.
• Benefits: Include equity, bonus (if applicable), and other benefits.
• Restricted Stock Units (RSUs): All roles include RSUs, providing ownership in Grafana Labs' success.
