About Hatchet

Hatchet is currently used by thousands of engineers, from technical startup founders to platform teams at Fortune 50 companies, for all kinds of workloads: AI agents, log ingestion pipelines, code review products, video encoding, GPU scheduling, and more. Our primary ideal customer profile is fast-growing startups that have a strong need for a background jobs system.

We launched our open-source offering on Hacker News in 2024, quickly growing to thousands of GitHub stars and hundreds of self-hosted installations. After raising our pre-seed funding, we launched Hatchet Cloud, which is our primary source of revenue growth. Hatchet Cloud currently handles over 3 billion tasks per month and is growing at over 20% monthly.

Who we're looking for

We're looking to work with people who are humble, ambitious, curious and kind. Specific qualities we value include:

  • Always ready to dive into a problem: Our team is action-oriented and motivated by difficult challenges.
  • Eager to talk to users and identify patterns in workload and behavior.
  • Excited to help others, possess low ego, are analytical, competitive, and collaborative.
  • Willing to set and exceed ambitious goals.

If you're scrappy, comfortable wearing many hats, drawn to experimentation, and interested in using AI tools to automate business and go-to-market processes, this role could be a great fit.

Responsibilities

In the short term, we're looking for a growth engineer to accelerate growth in existing channels by improving user analytics and automation, and using these tools to increase user activation and usage. We have more data than we know what to do with.

Some responsibilities include:

  • Owning the technical roadmap for our go-to-market function: defining our go-to-market stack, implementing systems, automating manual tasks, and brainstorming workflows to accelerate pipeline across self-serve and sales-assisted motions.
  • Finding efficiency opportunities on the operations side, from contract review, billing, and revenue tracking to customer support, incident response, and on-call system optimization.
  • Identifying trends in user behavior across our product and marketing surfaces.
  • Experimenting with automated multi-touch campaigns, from our new signup flow to post-event engagement.

Longer-term, we're looking for someone who can implement new growth ideas and strategies, and evaluate and iterate on these implementations.

Working at Hatchet

Our founding team includes two second-time YC founders, founding engineers from Elastic, MongoDB, and Klaviyo, and a small but effective growth team. We are remote-first but have an office in NYC, with plans to open an office in SF.

We avoid symbolic or arbitrary processes and aim to keep the team intentionally small.

Working Hours

Our philosophy is to maximize productive working hours. We want everyone to feel rested and motivated daily. We prioritize team health and well-being, and do not expect work on weekends or late nights. For most team members, this means 8-9 hours of highly productive work, Monday-Friday.

This role will require some travel.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary with meaningful equity
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Flexible time off
  • Remote-first, with in-office opportunities
  • Regular team offsites
