Role Overview

As a Sr Advanced Software Design Engineer here at Honeywell, you will play a crucial role in software development (sprints) to enhance existing tools and create new features that support current processes while also working on the maintenance cycles.

You will report directly to our Sr Engineering Manager, and work out of our Aguadilla, Puerto Rico location. External hires begin with 90 days onsite before transitioning to a 3/2 hybrid work schedule.

You will be part of a dedicated team that applies its expertise and knowledge to design, develop, release, and test Material Engineering tools such as the Linked Information Management System (LIMS) and the Spectrometric Oil Analysis Program (SOAP). Additionally, you will manage data using database management systems such as Oracle, PERL, and MSSQL, along with software testing across all applications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design, development, and maintenance of LIMS and SOAP applications, contributing to coding and testing efforts.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, provide technical support, and ensure timely delivery of project milestones.
  • Participate in peer code reviews to ensure quality and adherence to coding standards, promoting best practices in software development.
  • Develop and implement technical solutions that enhance system functionality and optimize performance, while troubleshooting and resolving issues as they arise.
  • Help track project progress, manage timelines, and prioritize tasks to support the Lead Software Engineer in achieving strategic goals.
  • Contribute to maintaining comprehensive documentation for software applications, including user manuals, technical specifications, and project reports.
  • Provide technical support to users, addressing inquiries and issues related to LIMS and SOAP, and assist in delivering training sessions for end-users.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements within software development practices, advocating for changes that enhance efficiency and quality.
  • Stay up to date of advancements in relevant technologies and methodologies, suggesting updates or upgrades to maintain the competitiveness of LIMS and SOAP.
  • Assist in the execution of the LIMS roadmap, aligning software development activities with overall business objectives and project priorities.

Travel, up to 5% may be expected.

YOU MUST HAVE

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as the sciences, technology, engineering or mathematics
  • 8+ years of experience programming and managing software applications.
  • Experience in Perl programming language.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English.

WE VALUE

  • Bachelor's degree in software engineering, computer engineering or computer science
  • Experience using current Database Management Systems and Programming Languages.
  • Experience with Oracle / Microsoft SQL Server (DBMS), VBA (Word, Excel), Python, and Java.
  • Familiarity with Git, Bitbucket, or equivalent.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure services and Microsoft Could
  • Experience with Linux and scripting, virtual machines, and VMware or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD and SDLC practices.
  • Experience in full-stack development (front-end UI and back-end API/Server).
  • Web development experience (HTML/CSS, JS, JSP, jQuery), Knowledge of Python Frameworks.
  • Demonstrated Software Engineering and Software Testing Experience.
