If you're a team player who enjoys solving complex problems in a fast-paced, collaborative, and iterative delivery environment, this role is for you.

The Opportunity

The Senior Data Engineer will design, build, and maintain data processing architectures and solutions that enable the efficient conversion of structured and unstructured data into insights at an enterprise scale. You will ingest data from internal and external sources using cloud-native platforms and software development best practices. Develop software tools leveraging artificial intelligence, machine learning, and big-data techniques to cleanse, organize, and transform data into actionable insights that help Humana better serve its members.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a primary point of contact for the team, build Proofs of Concept (POCs), and create quick prototypes with the latest industry-standard software libraries, scaling them for the platform.
  • Design, code, test, debug, and document programs using Agile development practices.
  • Develop new documentation and departmental technical procedures.
  • Make decisions on moderately complex to complex issues regarding the technical approach for project components, working without direct supervision. Exercise considerable latitude in determining objectives and approaches to assignments.
  • Troubleshoot business and production issues by gathering information (e.g., issue, impact, criticality, possible root cause), engaging support teams, formulating an action plan, performing designated actions, interpreting results, performing root cause analysis, and completing online documentation.
  • Share your passion for staying current with tech trends, experimenting with new technologies, participating in internal & external technology communities, and mentoring other members of the engineering community.

Use Your Skills to Make an Impact

Required Qualifications

  • Experience in event-based streaming using Kafka in various formats like JSON or Avro.
  • Experience designing and developing cloud solutions using AWS, Azure, or Google is a significant plus.
  • Experience leading engineering team(s) in end-to-end delivery.
  • Proficiency in federated data architectures (e.g., Data Mesh) and centralized models.
  • Strong experience with metadata management, data lineage, governance, discovery, and quality.
  • Experience in database-related technologies like Oracle or SQL Server.
  • A collaborative spirit, identifying with the team's success and doing whatever it takes to create the best work.
  • Experience analyzing existing applications and modifying them for new features while maintaining existing functionalities.
  • Experience working with GitHub and/or GitLab, SonarQube, JUnit; designing unit test cases using TDD and BDD methodologies.
  • Experience using CI/CD pipelines and code quality tools.
  • A test-driven mindset using frameworks like JUnit, SOAPUI, Selenium, and contract testing tools.
  • Expert knowledge of Agile methodologies.
  • Experience in Docker and Kubernetes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with machine learning frameworks, tools, and MLOps.
  • Experience developing highly scalable and always-available applications on large-scale distributed databases.
  • Experience in React or Angular.
