Overview

We are looking for a Front-End Software Engineer to support the development of data-driven web applications used across the organization. This role is focused heavily on React-based front-end development, helping translate complex backend and geospatial data into intuitive, performant user interfaces.

This is a 6--8 month contract with strong potential for full-time conversion based on performance and business needs.

What You'll Do

  • Build and enhance front-end applications using React and JavaScript, with a focus on performance, usability, and scalability.
  • Work closely with GIS developers, system analysts, and database-focused engineers to surface backend data through clean, user-friendly interfaces.
  • Develop new UI components, workflows, and features that interact with data stored in Postgres and geospatial systems.
  • Support the creation of "bite-sized" front-end applications that enable internal users to easily interact with complex systems.
  • Contribute to projects by delivering tangible, high-quality front-end artifacts within tight timelines.
  • Collaborate using standard development tools and workflows (Git, code reviews, shared repositories).

Must-Haves

  • Strong experience with React (primary skill) and modern JavaScript.
  • Experience building production-grade front-end applications.
  • Comfortable working independently and jumping into existing systems.
  • Ability to translate requirements into functional UI without heavy oversight.
  • Approximately 3 years of professional development experience (flexible for the right candidate).

Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience with ESRI or geospatial data / mapping applications.
  • Familiarity with Postgres or relational databases.
  • Working knowledge of Python, especially for light data manipulation or backend interaction.
  • Mobile development experience (iOS or Android), or React-based mobile deployments.
  • Experience working with JSON and API-driven applications.
  • Exposure to telecom, GIS, or data-heavy environments (not required).

Work Environment & Logistics

  • Fully remote role.
  • Candidates located in Colorado, New York, or Boston are preferred (but not required).
  • No on-site requirement, including after conversion to full-time.
  • Contract length: 6--8 months, with possibility of extension or FTE conversion.
