Role: AEM Solution Architect

Position: Remote (EST zone candidates required / preferred)

Work Hours: 37.5 hrs/week (8:00 AM -- 4:30 PM EST, 1-hour unpaid lunch)

Position Summary

CODE PA is seeking an experienced AEM Solution Architect to assess the Commonwealth's vendor-built Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) as a Cloud Service implementation supporting pa.gov and define a sustainable long-term support model.

The consultant will initially lead an architectural assessment and then serve as a strategic advisor guiding governance, support transition planning, documentation, and long-term platform stabilization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform full platform assessment of AEM as a Cloud Service implementation.
  • Identify over-customization, risks, technical debt, and maintainability issues.
  • Define future-state support model (internal vs vendor vs contractors).
  • Lead transition readiness evaluation and knowledge transfer planning.
  • Establish documentation standards and ensure artifacts are stored in Commonwealth-owned tools.
  • Define component/template architecture and content models.
  • Guide teams on AEM best practices (security, performance, deployments, code review).
  • Recommend governance standards and operational guardrails.
  • Provide executive-level communication, assessments, and decision recommendations.
  • Support vendor/contractor oversight and future SOW definition.

MUST-HAVE Skills

  • 8--10 years in enterprise content management / digital platform architecture
  • Deep hands-on experience with Adobe Experience Manager (AEM)
  • Strong expertise in AEM architecture implementation support
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Java
    • Apache Sling
    • AEM Dispatcher
    • Front-end integration with AEM
  • Experience assessing highly customized vendor-built AEM environments
  • Experience defining support models and transition strategies
  • Strong written documentation skills (executive-level assessments)
  • Tools: Confluence / SharePoint / Azure DevOps (or similar)

Preferred / Nice-to-Have

  • Experience transitioning from vendor-led support to internal/hybrid support model
  • Governance standards creation (change management, customization guardrails)
  • Procurement/RFP/SOW participation
  • Experience supporting government/public-facing platforms
  • AEM Cloud Service operational constraints knowledge:
    • Cloud Manager pipelines
    • deployment strategies
    • branching strategies
    • automated testing
    • environment management
  • AEM security models accessibility requirements knowledge
