Immigration / Work Authorization Notice:

At this time, iSpot does not provide visa sponsorship or immigration support for this role. Applicants must already be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time, permanent basis without the need for current or future sponsorship.

iSpot competes for the best talent. Our compensation packages consist of salary and equity in one of Seattle's hottest start-ups, as well as other standard benefits. Most importantly, we provide a really interesting working experience, and the chance to contribute to the success of something great.

What You'll Be Part Of:

Are you ready to revolutionize the way we track and analyze data? We're looking for a Software Engineer II to join our team and make a real contribution to our platform. You'll work within a stack that spans complex data science and robust software architecture, writing reliable code across multiple components and environments. We value engineers who take pride in the quality of their code and the integrity of the data it produces, think critically about what they build, and are hungry to take on more.

Responsibilities

  • Own Your Features: With minimal oversight, lead small engineering projects---writing high-quality, reliable code across multiple components and environments.
  • Work with Big Data: Build and maintain components within systems that process, match, and store large datasets from diverse internal and third-party sources.
  • End-to-End Quality: Own testing plans for your features---from unit and integration tests to end-to-end and performance coverage---accounting for edge cases and external dependencies.
  • Shared Data Quality Ownership: Take shared responsibility for the accuracy and integrity of the data your code produces. Review data outputs with a critical eye---not just flagging what's wrong, but articulating what "good" looks like and what it takes to get there.
  • Enhance Visibility: Build basic telemetry and monitoring into your features to ensure they're working as expected. Analyze localized metrics and suggest process improvements.
  • Define & Implement: Gather and verify technical requirements, then author and audit technical designs for features and components, defining optimizations where appropriate.
  • Support Releases: Debug pipeline issues in CI/CD and analyze system logs to support smooth deployments.
  • Drive Team Success: Participate actively in code reviews following team guidelines and best practices, help onboard new team members, and contribute to shared goals within a cross-functional Agile team.
  • Grow Through Challenges: Participate in on-call rotations, investigate incidents using runbooks and SOPs, and perform root cause analysis in standard areas with minimal guidance.
  • Manage Risk: Identify feature and module dependencies and critical paths. Propose mitigation plans and learn to collaborate across teams for cross-team initiatives.
  • Communicate Clearly: Communicate opportunities to improve deliverables and work processes. Know when and how to escalate issues.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Education: Minimum of a bachelor's degree.
  • Experience: 2--4 years working in data or software engineering in technology-driven settings.
  • Core Engineering: 2 years' experience building software or testing/data analysis tools using either Python or Java, with the willingness to work across both as required by the stack.
  • Data Analysis: A confident foundation in data analysis---you're comfortable querying big data sources with open-source tools, reviewing outputs for correctness, and reasoning about what the data should look like, not just whether it's broken.
  • Modern Data Stack: Familiarity with MySQL, Snowflake, and AWS-based data infrastructure (S3, Redshift, Glue, Iceberg).
  • Notebooks: Experience using Jupyter Notebooks for data cleansing, monitoring, or modeling is a plus.
  • AI-Augmented Workflow: Experience using AI tools like Kiro to improve the speed and quality of engineering tasks, with the judgment to critically evaluate AI-generated output.
  • Data Domain Knowledge: Exposure to Data Clean Rooms, DMPs (LiveRamp, Neustar), or Data Science (R) is a plus.

Preferred Skills:

  • Strong Collaboration: You build trust through excellent follow-through and integrity, and communicate clearly---both written and verbal.
  • Eager Impact: You improve upon projects by identifying enhancements or efficiencies, and you're energized by the opportunity to take on more responsibility.
  • Navigating the Unknown: You're comfortable asking questions, admitting what you don't know, and partnering with the right people to find the answer.
  • Sustainable Quality: You understand the importance of testing at every level and advocate for best practices---from code reviews to CI/CD---as part of how you work.
  • Proactive Communication: You know when and how to escalate issues, and you look for opportunities to improve deliverables and work processes.

Additional Notes:

A Note on Technical Fit: We value strong engineering fundamentals and a genuine desire to grow above all else. If you have solid experience building and testing software and are excited to tackle new challenges, we encourage you to apply even if your current stack doesn't perfectly mirror ours. We prioritize initiative and a willingness to learn over a checklist of keywords.
