Lead Counsel for Blockchain - Remote

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary legal advisor to product and engineering teams developing blockchain-based payments and financial infrastructure.
• Provide proactive legal and regulatory guidance on US financial services laws and frameworks, including money transmission and payments regulation.
• Design, implement, and evolve internal compliance policies and product governance frameworks aligned with US regulations.
• Collaborate with compliance, risk, and security teams to embed controls into product design, including KYC, AML, and data privacy.
• Translate complex regulatory requirements into clear guidance for product, engineering, and business teams.
• Ensure product strategy aligns with legal and regulatory standards by collaborating cross-functionally.
• Manage external counsel regarding specialized regulatory matters and support internal reviews related to product risk.

Requirements

• J.D. degree from an accredited law school and active admission to at least one U.S. state bar.
• 7+ years of legal experience in a law firm or in-house, particularly in fintech, payments, banking, or blockchain.
• Strong expertise in US financial services regulation, specifically in money transmission and payments compliance.
• Experience advising on product legal and compliance matters in fintech, cryptocurrency, or payments.
• Proven ability to develop compliance policies and governance frameworks within financial services or tech contexts.
• Capacity to translate regulatory requirements into actionable guidelines in a fast-paced environment.
