Salary: $155,000 - $180,000 per year

- Job Location: Washington, DC
- Work Schedule: Hybrid - 3 days on-site, 2 days WFH
- Salary: $155k-$180k base salary + $1k-$5k Annual Bonus

Must have:
- Active CPA license
- Must currently work as a Controller for a non-profit/think tank managing $35M+ budget OR work in public accounting as an Audit Manager/Sr. Audit Manager with non-profit assurance experience
- Experience managing direct reports
Nice-to-Have:
- Experience with Sage Intacct, Solver, or similar cloud-based accounting systems
- Experience working with AI
- Mission-driven with interest in research, education, or policy-related organizations

Job Details
The Controller will lead the accounting and financial reporting function, ensuring strong financial discipline and operational rigor. This is a high-impact leadership role reporting directly to the CFO and overseeing a team of 6 accounting professionals.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all core accounting functions: General Ledger, Accounts Payable & Receivable, Payroll, Financial Reporting, and Internal Controls.
- Lead and manage a team of 5-6 accounting staff (Managers, Sr., Staff).
- Manage and support month-end and year-end close, audit process, and financial reporting.
- Drive budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
- Partner with leadership to align financial processes with organizational goals.
- Improve processes, systems, and financial controls.
- Support and strengthen FP&A capabilities.
