What you will do

The Johnson Controls Technology and Solutions Engineering Solutions Infrastructure (PI/P3) team provides pre-sales Building Automation System and project development engineering services for large complex building projects. We develop and deliver leading building, business and vertical market solutions and engineering expertise driving value for sales partners and customers for Performance Infrastructure (PI) and Public Private Partnership (P3) projects.

As a key member of the PI Solutions Development Engineering team, you will partner with some of the best minds in the industry to create innovative solutions focused on customers' needs. This position will focus on Controls within PI projects across North America. This is a virtual position but must live within the United States and Canada.

The Systems Development Engineer II supports the Solutions Infrastructure (PI/P3) sales team by assisting with pre and post sales activities on building systems and equipment project opportunities.

Pre-sales activities

Include, but are not limited to; system configuration validation, HVAC equipment and/or controls selection for basis of design as well as bidding, application and pricing. Jobsite inspections to determine existing conditions, identify potential equipment defects and evaluate equipment operability.

Post sales activities

Include equipment project execution that is profitable, accurate, on-time, within the scope of the contract and in alignment with customer expectations. Develops and provides detailed engineering information and submittals to communicate design, configuration, operating and installation requirements.

How you will do it

  • Administers the NA Technology and Solution Engineering project development process.
  • Provides Johnson Controls Metasys along with other system application support and systems development.
  • Project responsibilities include pre-sales design support, cost development, applications engineering, specification interpretation, subcontractor RFP generation, and proposal development.
  • Reviews solution application and cost of work estimates with salesperson and operations team.
  • Provides scope definition and systems development direction for outside vendors and subcontractors.
  • Assist in identifying specification issues or interpretation discrepancies.
  • Demonstrates ability to design BMS systems for design-build project applications.
  • Interfaces with JCI OpenBlue Digital team to define integrated automation and cloud-based analytic software solutions.
  • Performs detailed engineering or cost impact analysis to quantify cost savings or other customer benefits.
  • Consults with sales and operations team to appropriately assess project financial and execution risk.
  • Acts as a liaison between Sales and System Engineering team.
  • Evaluates value-engineering options related to the Building Automation System.
  • Participates in turnover meetings with the assigned Project Manager.
  • Prepares customer proposals and quote letters for assigned projects.
  • Interprets engineering drawings and specifications to provide engineered equipment submittals.
  • Develops and maintains viable long-term relationships with customers, consultants, prime contractors and subcontractors.

What we look for

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or engineering technology.
  • Computer skills experience: Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Visio), Adobe Writer or Bluebeam, and basic Windows operating system environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with both internal and external customers.
  • Demonstrated ability to simultaneously manage a large and diverse number of projects.
  • 5-7 years of related work experience, or minimum of 10 years related work experience in HVAC equipment, building automation controls or similar field.
  • Design, configure or modify existing or new Building Automation Systems (e.g., Johnson Controls, Siemens, Automated Logic, Honeywell Tridium, Schneider Electric, Distech, etc.).

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering.
  • AutoCad experience is a plus.

Compensation and Equal Opportunity

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $90,000 to $134,000. This role offers a competitive Bonus plan and benefits package.
