About the Role

Lendz Financial is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Non-QM Underwriter to join our growing operations team. This role is ideal for an underwriter with a strong foundation in mortgage credit who is eager to deepen their Non-QM expertise and grow within a supportive, high-accountability environment.

You'll underwrite complex loan files across Non-QM programs such as Bank Statement, DSCR, Asset Utilization, and 1099 income , while partnering closely with Sales, Account Managers, and Operations to deliver thoughtful, well-supported underwriting decisions. This is a fully remote position with clear performance expectations, ongoing coaching, and opportunities for professional growth.

What You'll Do

  • Underwrite residential mortgage loan applications in compliance with company, investor, and regulatory guidelines
  • Analyze borrower credit, assets, and income, including complex income scenarios such as:
    • Self-employed borrowers
    • 1099 income
    • Bank Statement programs
    • Asset depletion and utilization
  • Review and evaluate personal and business documentation, including 12- and 24-month bank statements, P&Ls, and cash flow statements
  • Maintain an underwriting pipeline that meets established SLAs and productivity benchmarks
  • Deliver clear, well-documented underwriting decisions and conditions aligned with program guidelines
  • Provide written justification for loan decisions and required conditions
  • Partner with Loan Officers, Account Managers, and Operations to resolve file-level questions and move loans efficiently toward closing
  • Support quality control standards, including:
    • Pre-closing defect rate below 10%
    • Post-closing defect rate below 5%
  • Stay current on Non-QM guideline updates, investor overlays, and regulatory requirements
  • Contribute to a collaborative team environment focused on continuous improvement and shared success

What We're Looking For

  • 2--5 years of mortgage underwriting experience, including exposure to Non-QM or alternative documentation loans
  • Working knowledge of Non-QM products such as:
    • Bank Statement programs
    • DSCR
    • Asset Utilization
    • 1099 income
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate complex borrower profiles
  • Clear, professional written and verbal communication skills
  • A coachable mindset with a desire to learn, grow, and evolve within the role
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment
  • Sound judgment, attention to detail, and a high level of accountability
