This role partners closely with the executive team and Business Unit Leaders, and Directors to design and execute people programs that strengthen culture, drive business performance, and deliver an exceptional employee experience across the entire employee life cycle for our approximately 100 employees. As a fully remote company, Miva requires a leader adept at building culture, connection, and operational excellence in a virtual-first environment. This is an individual contributor role, providing oversight and direction to a part-time Recruiter consultant.
This position is ideal for someone comfortable with both long-term people strategy and the tactical execution of payroll processing, employee support, and benefits administration. The ideal candidate thrives on wearing multiple hats, transitions fluidly between strategic and tactical work, and operates with a high degree of independence, ownership, and discretion.
Strategic Duties:
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO, President, and executive team on workforce planning, organizational design, leadership development, and talent strategy.
- Steward and evolve Miva's culture; lead programs that reinforce engagement, belonging, and the overall employee experience in a fully remote, geographically distributed workforce.
- Own total rewards strategy, including compensation philosophy, market benchmarking, benefits design, and 401(k) plan oversight.
- Oversee full-cycle recruiting strategy for all positions across the organization.
- Lead diversity, equity, and inclusion strategy and related programs.
- Define and report on key people metrics (headcount, retention, engagement, time-to-hire, compensation positioning, etc.); deliver data-driven recommendations to leadership.
- Utilize HR systems and tools (HRIS, ATS, performance, payroll, benefits) to ensure efficient program execution.
- Identify, evaluate, and implement opportunities to leverage AI and emerging technologies to optimize HR workflows, improve efficiencies, and elevate the quality of people programs and deliverables.
- Lead organizational change management initiatives, including reorganizations, role transitions, and growth planning.
- Manage the HR budget and external vendor relationships, including benefits brokers, payroll providers, employment counsel, and recruiting partners.
- Anticipate emerging people risks and opportunities, and proactively recommend and implement solutions.
Operational Duties:
- Provide direction to a part-time Recruiter consultant; review pipelines, and ensure a consistent, high-quality candidate experience.
- Design and deliver an exceptional onboarding experience that rapidly integrates new hires and connects them to Miva's culture and goals.
- Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll, health benefits, and 401(k) plan, maintaining compliance with all federal, state, and local laws across multiple states.
- Administer leaves of absence, accommodations, workers' compensation, and unemployment claims.
- Maintain HRIS and employee records; ensure data integrity and produce reporting as needed.
- Coach managers and employees on performance, behavioral concerns, team dynamics, and employee relations matters.
- Conduct employee relations investigations and recommend appropriate corrective actions; partner with employment counsel as needed.
- Maintain and update the employee handbook, policies, procedures, and job descriptions.
- Manage offboarding logistics, including exit interviews and analysis of attrition trends.
- Provide guidance to employees and managers on company policies, benefits, and processes.
- Serve as a visible, trusted resource and first point of contact for employees on all people-related matters.
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
What You Will Bring:
- Bachelor's degree in HR, Business, or a related field; 10 years of HR experience, including 3 years in a leadership role.
- Demonstrated track record operating as both a strategic business partner and a hands-on practitioner; comfortable being the sole HR resource for the company.
- Experience directing and managing the work of external consultants or contract resources (recruiters, brokers, counsel, vendors).
- Experience supporting a company of similar size (approximately 50-150 employees), ideally in technology, software, SaaS, or e-commerce.
- Deep expertise across the full HR function: talent acquisition, total rewards, employee relations, performance management, learning and development, compliance, and culture.
- Solid working knowledge of federal and state employment laws; multi-state compliance experience required, including familiarity with state-specific wage and hour, leave, and tax requirements for a distributed workforce.
- Proven success building culture, engagement, and connection within a fully remote or hybrid workforce distributed across multiple states.
- Proficiency with HRIS, ATS, and payroll platforms.
- Hands-on experience using AI tools to streamline HR work and improve deliverable quality; comfortable identifying new use cases and continuously refining workflows for efficiency.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with strong analytical and reporting capabilities.
- Excellent judgment, discretion, and the ability to handle highly confidential and sensitive information.
- Superior interpersonal and communication skills; ability to build trust and credibility at all organizational levels.
- Advanced problem-solving, decision-making, negotiating, and influencing skills.
- Highly organized self-starter with the ability to manage competing priorities and transition fluidly between strategic and tactical work.
