A leading global economics and analytics consulting firm is hiring a full-time Senior Data Engineer (Applied AI/ML) for its Boston, MA office. This role sits at the intersection of data engineering, applied machine learning, and analytical consulting, supporting high-impact client engagements involving complex structured and unstructured datasets. The environment combines advanced analytics, Python-based machine learning, generative AI workflows, and real-world business problem solving across industries where defensible, data-driven insights are critical.
This is an opportunity to work on highly complex and ambiguous analytical challenges while helping shape the future of AI and analytics capabilities inside a globally recognized consulting organization. The team is looking for someone who can independently evaluate modeling approaches, lead technical workstreams, and help develop innovative analytical methods involving LLMs, vector-based search, and unstructured data analysis. Required Skills & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
- 4-7 years of experience in data engineering, analytics, or related technical roles
- Strong proficiency in Python for data processing, modeling, and automation
- Applied machine learning experience across classification, clustering, ranking, and generative AI workflows
- Experience working with structured and unstructured datasets
- Strong understanding of feature engineering, model evaluation, and analytical trade-offs
- Strong SQL and relational database knowledge
- Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure or similar cloud environments
- Experience with Git and collaborative software development practices
- Strong communication skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Experience mentoring junior engineers and reviewing code
Desired Skills & Experience
- Experience with vector-based search or retrieval systems
- Exposure to LLM-enabled workflows and text analytics
- Experience researching or prototyping emerging AI/ML technologies
- Consulting or client-facing analytics experience
